OBJECTIVES

To develop e-content on the topic
To term the concept of solar system
To develop an understanding of solar system and its application in real life
situations

TOPIC

Solar system
Eight planets, as comets and
asteroids also revolving around the
sun all these together constitute the
solar system

E-CONTENT ANALYSIS
TERMS: Terrestrial Planets, Jovian Planets
FACTS:
Sun is the center of the solar system and the planets revolve around the sun

The solar system consists of eight planets

Earth is the only planets in the universe where life exists. Earth has only on
satellite and mars has two satellites

Jupiter is the biggest planet and has 63 satellites and Saturn has 47 satellites

CONCEPTS
1) Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars are mainly composed of solid substances like rocks, iron
and nickel. They are called terrestrial planets. Their densities are high , they lie more
closer to the sun, they have only fewer satellites.

2) Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are mainly composed of condensed gases such as
hydrogen and methane. They are called Jovian planets. These giant gaseous planets, we
can see rings around them. These planets have many satellites too.

SUMMARY
Celestial observers have been trying from older times to identify stars and planets when
they observed the relative motion of the stars, they found that some stars had moved
comparatively further from their positions they named such stars are wanderers they were the
planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. As satellites they know only the Earths
moon. Further when Galileo discovered the telescope, they realized that planets like Jupiter also
had satellites .Later they also discovered planets like Uranus and Neptune. Other then these, they
are comets and asteroids also revolving around the sun. All these together constitute the solar
system. Thus the e-content can be conveyed very easily and clearly to the students , it will
definitely motivate them to learn by using the wide scope of e-content, we can make the teaching
learning process more effective.
