INTRODUCTION

The laboratory work during the course cover a wide range of experiment skills that students
would need to acquire in most scientific deciplines.The focus of this course is not to learn in the
depth in science,but to learn how to operate safty in a laboratory.there for there no in depth
lecture sessions included in this course.Instead,a course book on the practical skill in the basis of
the course.
The course is a recommended for al science learning how they should be analysed is
importent when eighter continueing in practical research or when depending on practical
research.Experiments are the foundation of many discoveries in science and also provide proof
for computer modeling of experiments.After attendinn the theoriticl works the student will be
able plan and carryout experiment while taking safty aspect in to account and to clearly report to
experimental result.Also obsevational and experimentat skill are developed
Importence of Laboratory Works
The laboratory works in science is to provide students with conceptual and
theoritical knowledge to to help them scientific concept and through scientific method to
understand the nature of science. Laboratory works also gives the students opportunity to
experience the science by using scientific research procedure.Inorder to achieve meaningful
learning,scientific theories and their application method should be experienced by students.More
over laboratory work should be encourage the development of analyticl and critical thinking
skills and encourage the interest in science.
The importent laboratory work given bellow
a) The lab help the pupilsin the develepment of manipulative skills
b) The experiment serves as a source of motivation.They are interested in handling materials and
doing experiments

c) The lab the teacher come into closer contact with the individuals and help them to bring out of
their difficulties
d) In doing lab work the pupil get a chance for activity both physical and intelluctual and they
are learning by doing

Selection and Purchase of Apparatus
Chemical and Equipment

The list of the apparatus and chemicals to be purchased must be prepared with the details
of the experiment to be performed by the pupils and demonstrated by the teacher.The number of
units coastlyapparatus may be reduced and pupils may be devided into two
1) essential
2) desirable
In preparing list due consideraton should be paid to all parts of the subject.The teacher
may not be tempted by the atractive discriptions and cataloges.When the essentials have been
purchased,the teacher might think of getting down disarable.

Maintenance of the Laboratory Works

No laboratory work can be considered complete with out an
equipment for making simple apparatus and execuiting minor repair.Hence there should be a
small work shop with proper fitting for wood work and metal work.The equipment enables the
laboratory work to be with out interruption and also allow many improovment to be carried out
in the form of different apparatus.
In a laboratory workshop,there should be small
carpenters,benches and tool for wood work.There should also be metal working
tools,hammer,players,drillpress and small vice and anvil.And the raw material there should be
wooden planks,strips,nails,wires,scews,sheet,metal,glass,rubber tubing,corks,rubber stoppers it..

Laboratory Rules

The science teacher is the supreme authority in the laboratory and he should be
strictly obeyed.
1) No pupil should be allowed to enter the laboratory in the absence of the teacher
2) Every pupil may have a seat assigned to him
3) When the pupil are working in groups they might be allowed to discuss in a law tone
4) Unnecessary talking should be strictly forbiden
5) No pupil should be allowed to enter the laboratory in the absence of the teacher
Accident in the Laboratory and First Aid
Accident may happen in the lab.So it is necessary to keep First Aid Kit.
This should contain acetic acid,bandage,carbolic
acid,cotton,dressing,guaze,eyedroper,forceps,glycerine,milkofmagnesia,plaster,plueker,sodium
carbonate,tinture,vaseline.
It would be better to display a chart depiciting the acciedents that are
usual in the laboratory and remedies.


Register in the Laboratory
Once the apparatus is received,the article should be properly checked and
entered in the stock register the same time.The type of registers in each educational instituishions
are.
1. Permanent stock register

2. Specimen of breakable stock register
3. Consumable stock register
4. Order register
5. Re-equipment register
Use of stock register
1. The science teacher should be numbe all the pages of every stock register
2. All entriesshould be made a alphabetically

Suggestion to Develop Infrastructure of a Laboratory:
1. Find source of funds
2. Space for laboratory
3. Enough apparatus and chemical and they are to stored
CONCLUSION
One of the important functions of the science laboratory is the depending of the
students environment.Practical work in science even at the school stage is essential because of
the fact that we learn by doingscientific principles and applications are thus entered are more
meaningful.Moreover it is a fact that an object handled impressess itself firmlyon the mind than
an object mearly seen from a distance or in illustration.Most children like doing thing with their
hand.Practical work provides an activity which can be profitable and emotionlly satisfying.
