1.1 Your Phone at a Glance

1.2.1 How do I open the battery cover?
Use your left hand to hold the phone at one end, and use your right index finger to open a gap
between the back cover and phone in the groove at the opposite end.

1.3 Home Screen

The status bar is on the top, and you can drag it down to open the notification panel.
The dock at the bottom contains four applications that do not change as you swipe
between home screens.
The center section of the home screen displays all applications and widgets. You can
swipe left or right to switch between home screens.
1.4 How do I switch between home screens quickly?
You can use either of the following ways to access a home screen quickly:
On a home screen, pinch together to display the thumbnails of home screens, as shown in
the following figure. Touch or pinch apart on a thumbnail to display the corresponding
home screen.



On a home screen, touch the Menu key or touch and hold any blank space to display the
Set home screen dialog box. Touch Thumbnails to display the thumbnails of home
screens. You can then touch the desired home screen to access it.

1.5 Widgets
On a home screen, touch the Menu key or touch and hold any blank space to display the Set
home screen dialog box. Touch Widgets to display the widget selection screen.



To add a widget to a home screen, touch and hold the widget and drag it to the home screen.
The widget selection screen contains three tabs: ALL, DOWNLOADED, and . The
ALL tab displays all widgets, and the DOWNLOADED tab displays the widgets of the
currently installed applications. To find a widget, touch and enter the widget name.



1.6 Status Bar and Status Icons

The following figure shows the icons that may appear in the status bar and their meanings.





1.7 Messaging
1.7.1 What is the difference between text messages in an Android
OS and those in a traditional OS? What is the advantage of text
messages in the Android OS?
Difference: In a traditional operating system (OS), text messages are stored in your inbox and
sent box. In an Android OS, text messages to or from a contact are stored in a thread.
Advantage: Messaging in an Android OS is similar to instant messaging services such as
MSN, which helps you to follow the conversation more easily.
1.7.2 How do I send a text or multimedia message?
Open Messaging, write a message, touch to attach a file, and touch .

1.7.3 Does the phone receive a long text message as several
messages or a single complete message?
The phone receives a long text message as a single complete message.
1.7.4 How do I identify received and sent messages?
Received and sent messages are identified by their positions, background colors and status.
Sent messages and a contact photo are displayed on the right with the sending time and read
receipt. Received messages and a contact photo are displayed on the left with the receiving
time.



1.7.5 How many text messages can be stored on my phone?
The number of messages that can be stored on your phone is dependent on your phone's
storage capacity.
To check your phone's storage capacity, touch Settings > All > Storage > Internal storage.

If Delete old messages is selected, your phone stores a maximum of 500 text messages per
conversation by default. You can change this upper limit.



1.7.6 If I forward a message in a thread, will all the messages in
the thread be sent or only the desired message?
Only the message you selected will be forwarded.
1.7.7 How do I set an audio file as my ringtone for incoming calls
or new messages?
To set the ringtone for incoming calls, touch Settings > All > Sound > Phone ringtone.
To set the message tone, touch Settings > All > Sound > Notification tone.



From File Manager, touch and hold an audio file to display an option menu. To set the audio
file as the ringtone for incoming calls, touch Set as > Phone ringtone. To set the audio file as
the message tone, touch Set as > Notification ringtone.

Alternatively, you can open Music, select an audio file and touch the Menu key. From the
displayed menu, choose Set as ringtone.



1.7.8 How do I set my phone to vibrate when I receive new
messages?
Open Messaging. Touch the Menu key then Settings > Vibrate.
1.7.9 How many English characters and Chinese characters are
allowed in a long text message?
A text message can contain a maximum of 160 English characters or 70 Chinese characters.
A long text message can contain up to 10 pages. If the message content is longer than 10
pages, the message will be automatically converted to a multimedia message.
NOTE

The actual specifications are determined by customer requirements.
1.7.10 How do I delete multiple threads or messages at a time?
Open Messaging. You can then delete a thread or all threads. To delete a thread, touch and
hold the thread and touch . To delete all threads, touch the Menu key then Delete all
threads.
To delete messages in a thread, open the thread, touch the Menu key then Delete messages,
select the messages you want to delete, and touch .
1.8 Multimedia Messages
1.8.1 Are there any restrictions on the size, format, or resolution of
a file to be attached to a multimedia message?
If an audio or video file exceeds the size limit (generally 300 KB), it cannot be attached to a
message.
If a picture is too large, it will be automatically compressed before being attached to the
message. As a result, the resolution of the picture attached to the message decreases.
1.8.2 My phone failed to send or receive a multimedia message.
Why? What can I do?
Multimedia messages cannot be received if you do not have sufficient storage available on
your phone. To solve this problem, delete unnecessary files to free up some space.



Multimedia messages cannot be sent or received if the data service is disabled. To solve this
problem, touch Settings > All > Mobile networks > Data enabled.

1.8.3 How do I change the font size of text message or multimedia
message text?
The font size of message text cannot be changed independently, but you can change the
system font size to increase or decrease the font size of message text accordingly. To change
the system font size, touch Settings > All > Display > Font size.



1.9 Calls
1.9.1 How do I check the total call duration?
No preinstalled applications are available to check your total call duration, but you can
download a third-party application as required.
1.9.2 How do I switch between multiple ongoing calls?
When you have multiple ongoing calls, touch to switch between them.

1.9.3 Does my phone support video call?
No.
1.9.4 Can I use the headset button to answer an incoming call?
Yes. When a call comes in, you can use the headset button to answer the call. It is
recommended that you use the headset provided with your phone to prevent compatibility
issues.
1.9.5 Can I copy multiple contacts from the phone to the USIM
card in one operation?
Yes, you can copy multiple contacts from the phone to the USIM card at a time.



1.10 Music
1.10.1 When playing music or video clips, does the media player
support functions such as fast-forward, rewind, pause, and
repeat?
Yes.
1.10.2 I set an audio file on my microSD card as my ringtone and I
removed the microSD card. Does the phone still use the file as my
ringtone?
No, the ringtone for incoming calls changes to the default ringtone.
1.10.3 How do I create a playlist?
Step 1 Open Music, touch and hold the audio file you want to add to a playlist.
Step 2 From the displayed option menu, choose Add to playlist > New playlist. Name the playlist
and touch Save.

they?
Play in order (by default): Play all audio files in a playlist in sequence and stop playing after
all the files have been played.



Shuffle: Play all audio files in the playlist in a random order and stop playing after all the files
have been played.

Repeat list: Play all audio files in a playlist in sequence and repeat the playlist in sequence
after all the files have been played.

Repeat current song: Play the current audio file repeatedly.



1.10.5 How do I play audio files in the background and exit
Music?
To play audio files in the background, touch Music, play an audio file, and touch the Back or
Home key.
To exit Music, pause the currently playing audio file and touch the Back or Home key.
1.11 Camera
1.11.1 Where are my photos and video clips saved? Can I change
the path?
If a microSD card is available, touch File Manager > SD card > DCIM > Camera to
find your photos and videos.
If no microSD card is available, touch File Manager > Internal > DCIM > Camera to
find your photos and videos.
To change the default saving path, touch Camera, drag down, touch then Preferred
save location.



1.11.2 What picture formats and resolutions does the camera
support?
Camera supports the JEPG picture format and the resolutions of 5 megapixels, 3.2 megapixel,
0.8 megapixels, and 0.3 megapixels.



1.11.3 How many cameras does the phone come with? What are
the specifications for the cameras? Do they support autofocus?
The phone comes with two cameras: a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 0.3-megapixel front
camera. Both cameras support autofocus but not zoom.
1.11.4 What video formats and resolutions does the camera
support?
Camera supports the MP4 video format and video resolutions of VGA (640 x 480 pixels) and
MMS (176 x 144 pixels).
1.11.5 Can I play video clips in full-screen mode?
No.
1.11.6 Can I take pictures or videos when no microSD card is
available?
Yes. If no microSD card is available, pictures and videos will be stored on the phone's internal
storage.
1.11.7 Can I disable the shutter sound?
No.
1.11.8 Can I add a frame to a photo?
No.
1.11.9 I cannot open some pictures or video clips. Why?
The phone does not support the file format.
The phone memory is insufficient.
The file is damaged.
The file is copyright-protected.
The phone does not have sufficient resources. Close some running third-party
applications and try again.
An unknown error occurred in Camera or the phone's OS. This is a rare case. Restart the
phone and try again.
1.12 Streaming Media
1.12.1 Will the phone stop playing streaming media when a call
comes in? If yes, will it resume playing after the call is ended?
The phone stops playing the streaming media when a call comes in.



After the call is ended, the phone resumes playing the streaming media.
1.12.2 The phone cannot play some streaming media. Why?
The phone does not support the file format.
The network connection is unstable.
1.12.3 What causes poor quality of online streaming media played
on the phone?
The source streaming media is of poor quality.
The network connection is poor.
The phone hardware may be faulty, for example, the display is damaged. To check this,
use another device to play the online streaming media for comparison.
The CPU usage is high.
Too many applications are running concurrently.
1.12.4 Does playing online streaming media use the phone's
internal storage?
No. When playing, the online streaming media occupies the RAM rather than the phone's
internal storage.
1.13 Bluetooth
1.13.1 My phone cannot be discovered by other devices. Why?
What can I do?
Bluetooth has been turned off.
To solve this problem, touch Settings > All and turn on Bluetooth.



The phone is not set to be visible after Bluetooth is turned on.
To solve this problem, touch Settings > All > Bluetooth. Touch the device name to set it
to be visible.

1.13.2 What files can be transmitted using Bluetooth?
Pictures, audio files, videos, compressed files, contacts, and .apk files can be transmitted
using Bluetooth.



1.13.3 Can I use Bluetooth to synchronize data with a computer?
No.
1.13.4 Can I make calls or listen to music using a Bluetooth
headset?
Yes.
Turn on the Bluetooth headset and set it to visible. Turn on Bluetooth on your phone and
search for the headset. After the headset is found, pair your phone with it. You can then use
the headset to make calls or listen to music.
NOTE

To listen to music, you must use a stereo Bluetooth headset.
1.13.5 What is the Bluetooth's working range?
The working range is approximately 10 meters.
1.13.6 My phone fails to pair with other Bluetooth devices. Why?
The phone fails to find other Bluetooth devices.
To solve this problem, check that the Bluetooth on other devices is turned on and the
devices are set to visible.
The phone cannot detect a Bluetooth headset.
To solve this problem, check that the headset is set to be visible. For details about how to

Take your phone to an area with better signal strength.
Check the Location services settings. If only GPS satellites is selected, this problem may
occur when you are in a built-up area. To solve this problem, take your phone to an open area.
You may have to try for several times before your phone receives signals from GPS satellites.
1.15.4 When used indoor, my phone usually fails to locate my
position. When it finally locates my position, the displayed
position is far from the actual position. Why? Does my phone
support voice navigation?
GPS signals received indoor are weak. If you attempt to use GPS location indoor, your phone
may fail to receive signals from GPS satellites.
The accuracy of location depends on the accuracy of GPS satellites and the map used by your
phone.
You can use voice navigation if your navigation application supports this function.



2 Common Settings
2.1 How do I upgrade my phone's software?
NOTE

During an upgrade, all user data, such as contact information, text messages, and multimedia messages,
on your phone will be erased. Therefore, back up important data before upgrading your phone.
To upgrade online, touch Settings > All > About phone > System updates > Online
update.
To upgrade using a microSD card, touch Settings > All > About phone > System
updates > Update via SD card. (Download an upgrade package from the Huawei forum
and save the package to a microSD card.)
2.2 How do I install the ADB driver?
Use a USB cable to connect your phone to a computer, and an installation wizard runs
automatically. Follow the instructions to install the Android Debug Bridge (ADB) driver, as
shown in the following figures. If the installation wizard does not run automatically after you
connect your phone to the computer, double-click the ADB driver to start installation.



If the installation fails and a yellow exclamation mark is displayed nearby the ADB driver, do
the following to reinstall the driver:
Step 1 Connect your phone to a computer. On the computer, double-click My Computer.
Step 2 Open Mobile Partner.

2.4.3 My phone is connected to a Wi-Fi network but I cannot
open web pages sometimes. Why?
Possible causes are as follows:
The Wi-Fi network is not connected to the Internet.
The digital subscriber line (DSL) connection failed.
A domain name service (DNS) problem occurred. In this case, web pages cannot be
opened, but you may still log in to QQ. Attempt to log in to QQ to verify that this may be
the problem.



The websites that the Wi-Fi hotspot can access are restricted.
Your phone is faulty.
2.4.4 I have turned on my phone's Wi-Fi, but it cannot detect
Wi-Fi signals from a wireless router like other devices. What can I
do?
Check that the wireless router's service set identifier (SSID) is not hidden.
Move your phone to the coverage area of the wireless router.

Your browser does not support full-screen mode, but it supports bookmarks.
To view the bookmark list, launch your browser and touch the Menu key then Bookmarks.

7 or an up-to-date Linux OS (such as Ubuntu), you can use your phone's USB tethering
function without configuring any settings on the computer. If the computer runs an earlier
Windows or another type of OS, you may need to install some configuration files before using
your phone's USB tethering function.
