IPSF is delighted to introduce you to an internship opportunity with the World Health Organization (WHO). Through IPSF, the WHO Department of HIV/AIDS will recruit one pharmacy student or recent graduate to work at the main headquarters in Geneva.
Duration 2015 for a minimum of 6 weeks, with flexibility of internship dates upon agreement with the internship supervisor.
Programme The WHO has developed an Operational Plan on how to tackle HIV/AIDS for the upcoming year. The intern will be focusing on various tasks to help WHO accomplish these goals. The internship programme also aims: To provide a framework for assigning students from diverse academic backgrounds to the relevant WHO programmes, where their educational experience can be improved through practical assignments. To expose students to the work of WHO. To provide WHO programmes with external input from students majoring in various fields. Most students are placed in health-related programmes, although other disciplines can be considered as well.
Eligibility WHO may accept applicants who fulfil ALL of the following conditions as interns: A member of IPSF At least 20 years old on the date of application; Have completed three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution prior to commencing the assignment; Fluent in English Enrolled in a course of study in a recognized university or equivalent institution leading to a formal qualification, graduate or post-graduate, covering the period of the internship, OR, has completed the formal qualification within the last six months; Not related to a staff member (e.g. son/daughter, brother/sister or mother/father); Have not previously participated in a WHO internship programme; Hold a valid passport of a WHO Member State (as a matter of policy, and for the avoidance of any international law issue, including with Member States and Host States, candidates for internship who do not hold a valid passport from a WHO Member State will not be considered); and If resident in Switzerland, hold a valid residence permit.

Conduct themselves at all times in accordance with the standards of conduct expected of a person working in an international environment in a specialised agency of the United Nations system. Refrain from any conduct that would adversely reflect on WHO or on the receiving department and not engage in any activity which is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the Organization. Provide the receiving programme with a copy of all materials prepared during the internship. Respect the impartiality and independence required of WHO and not to seek or accept instructions regarding the services performed from any government or from any authority external to the Organization; Not to disclose or make use of any unpublished or confidential information that comes to their knowledge in the course of their internship and, except with the express authorization of WHO not to publish any reports or papers on the basis of information obtained during the assignment, both during and after the completion of the assignment Submit a written report at the end of the internship to be reviewed by the supervisor and other interested parties. Interns are expected to devote themselves full-time to the assignments of the receiving unit for the period of the internship. Return their identification pass and carte de lgitimation to SOS at the end of the internship.
How to Apply for the IPSF-WHO Health Promotion Internship WHO will be responsible for the final selection of applicant(s). Successful applicant(s) undertaking an internship will NOT be financially remunerated by WHO or IPSF. Applicants will be responsible for their own travel and living expenses.
As part of your application please submit: - A curriculum vitae (CV) - A motivation letter as to why you think you will be an ideal candidate for this internship and how you will help the World Health Organization carry out their Operational Plan for the upcoming year. You motivation letter must not be longer than 1000 words and must be the original work of the applicant. - A membership confirmation letter from your IPSF member organisation. - Proof of the applicants health/medical insurance which should be valid in Europe including Switzerland and covering the duration of the internship; - Proof that the intern is enrolled in a course of study in a recognized University or equivalent institution leading to a formal qualification, graduate or post-graduate, covering the period of the internship, or, has completed the formal qualification within the last six months; - A scanned copy of the main page(s) of the national passport.
