Profile BPJS Kesehatan

BPJS Kesehatan is a Public Organization that serve social security program especially for Public
healthcare Insurance program. BPJS Kesehatan has started their operation in January 2014
refer to the Indonesian Statute, UU No 24 Tahun 2011 which marks two different BPJS
Organization, first BPJS Kesehatan who previously was PT Askes (Persero) then BPJS
Ketenagakerjaan who previously was PT Jamsostek (Persero). Of this transformation, BPJS
Kesehatan surely would gain a lot of opportunity to success but they also couldnt shy from
facing some challenges and also problems to provide the best value for their costumer in
healthcare insurance program. Nevertheless, BPJS Kesehatan has important role in realizing JKN
(Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional) Plan for all the Indonesian citizens.

History BPJS Kesehatan
Before BPJS Kesehatan exist, there is PT Askes (Persero) who is a state own-public company
that famously known as an Indonesian Healthcare Insurance. The Operation of PT Askes
(Persero) was limited only for PNS, TNI/Polri and Pensionary. In 2004, The Government intent
to extend the coverage of the Social Security Healtcare Program through UU No 40 Tahun
2004 about National Social Security Reform Act (SJSN). This statue became a trigger for
emergence of UU no 24 tahun 2011 about BPJS. The statue had led PT Askes Transform to BPJS
Kesehatan in 2014 who has responsibility to serve Healthcare program to All Indonesian Citizen
and All Residents in Indonesia including long term expatriate employees.
Idea Behinds BPJS Kesehatan
The idea behind stand up BPJS Kesehatan is primarily because Health is a basic need for a
human. And the government of Indonesia needs to make sure that all of the citizen would get
health services whenever they got health problem. The Government realized that health
problem is highly related to the economic welfare of the society. We could see that many poor
people in Indonesia cant access the health service due to their economic/financial problems.
This Situation push the Government to make the scheme called Gotong Royong. Gotong
Royong Reflected by The Rich People (people who work) subsidize The Poor People who dont
have a power to pay for the health services. With this scheme, Government also find a way to
avoid the expense of APBN to cover health service for Poor People ( Jamkesmas. Jamkesda).
The Further Question is, How this scheme can meet with All of the Costumer Value (in term of
health) at least being acceptable by all of them.


Vision of BPJS Kesehatan
Later than January 1, 2019, the entire population of Indonesia has a national health insurance
to obtain health care benefits and protection to meet the basic needs of health organized by
BPJS Kesehatan that reliable, superior and reliable.

Mission of BPJS Kesehatan
Build strategic partnerships with various institutions and encourage public participation in the
expansion of the membership of the National Health Insurance (JKN).

Running and establish health insurance system that is effective, efficient and quality to optimal
participants through partnerships with health facilities.

Optimizing the management of social security funds and BPJS Kesehatans funds programs
effectively, efficiently, transparent and accountable to support the sustainability of the
program.

Build an effective BPJS Kesehatan based on the principles of good corporate governance and
improve the competence of employees to achieve superior performance.

Implement and develop the system of planning and evaluation, assessment, quality
management and risk management for all operational BPJS Kesehatan

Develop and strengthen the information and communication technology to support the
operation of BPJS Kesehatan.
