New Features and Enhancements
This release of NexentaStor includes new or improved capabilities such as
handling of faulty devices, enhancements in high availability (HA) cluster
management, along with improvements in Auto-Sync setup, configuration and
scheduling improvements.
This release note describes the new features, enhancements, and known issues
in the release of NexentaStor v3.1.5.
Enhancements
Auto-Sync and remote replication protocol (RRP) stability and performance
enhancement.
RSF-1 HAC now uses persistent group reservations (PGR3) for placing
reservations on disks in a cluster.
Support Data and Log Gathering
System data and log gathering (the NMS support command) has been
enhanced. This enhancement enables gathering of support logs even when
NMS is unavailable. The interface to the log collection is largely unchanged,
entering the NMC support command or clicking the Support link in NMV
initiates log gathering.
After you submit the log bundle to Nexenta support, there will be a pause for
several seconds before while the information is gathered and prepared.
Additionally, the mechanism that enables you to gather the support bundle
and store it locally, the support -s command in version 3.1.x, has been
made obsolete.
To gather the support log bundle and store it locally use the following NMC
commands:
nmc:/$ option expert_mode=1
nmc:/$ !nexenta-collector --no-upload
System Requirements
For system requirements for each environment, refer to the System
Requirements section in the NexentaStor Installation Guide.

Citrix XenServer Image
The NexentaStor Citrix XenServer Image runs on Citrix XenServer 5.X. Contact
your Nexenta Sales Professional for information about XenServer 6.0 support.
The current image is based on NexentaStor 3.1. Release notes are available in
the Support section of our website. For detailed step-by-step instruction on how
to deploy NexentaStor, refer to the NexentaStor Installation Guide.
Upgrading
Before an upgrade
Back up the NexentaStor Appliance
Before starting the upgrade, make sure you create an upgrade checkpoint,
backing up the NexentaStor appliance and all data. Verify the backup prior to
upgrading. This will allow you to roll back the machine to a previous state if the
upgrade fails for any reason or if there are any issues after the upgrade.
Choose the right time for the upgrade
During the upgrade, the NexentaStor appliance is restarted and all NexentaStor
tasks related to these services are stopped. Select the time for the upgrade when
no backup plan, replication, or recovery task actively running.
sTec ZeusRAM SAS SSD required upgrade of
the Firmware to version C023
STEC ZeusRAM SAS SSD firmware version C023 has been certified by Nexenta
on 3.1.5 and it is required to upgrade to this firmware version prior to upgrading
or installing 3.1.5. To perform this action the sTec Device Manager (SDM) tool kit
version sdmcmd-2.0.0.134-b002 is required.
Contact sTec for details on how to obtain and upgrade this firmware, and obtain
the sTec Device Manager (SDM) tool kit version sdmcmd-2.0.0.134-b002.
Upgrading with an Internet Connection
Applicable Versions: 3.1.0, 3.1.1, 3.1.2, 3.1.3 or
3.1.3.5, 3.1.4, 3.1.4.1, 3.1.4.2, 3.1.5
To upgrade from 3.1.0, 3.1.1, 3.1.2, 3.1.3, or 3.1.4 use the NMC command
setup appliance upgrade.

NexentaStor v3.1.5 Known Issues
Remote Replication Protocol (RRP) is only compatible with other
NexentaStor 3.1.5 systems
Description: NEX-403
This release of Auto-Sync requires 3.1.5 systems and is not forward or
backwards compatible. This was a result of enhancements to improve the
performance of the underlying data transport of AutoSync.
Workaround:
If you want to replicate data using Auto-sync between different versions of
NexentaStor, use Auto-Sync with the zfs+ssh protocol.
Changes to Auto-Sync using NMV may not take effect
Description: 13278
In NMV, when attempting to change Auto-Sync options, the changes do not
take effect.
Workaround:
To modify the Auto-Sync properties use the NMC:
1. Type:
nmc:/$ setup auto-sync <service instance> property
2. Select the property that you want to modify.
3. Save the changes. Type y.
4. Alternatively, to discard the changes, type n.
In some conditions, HA systems failover does not occur when
running Auto-Sync
Description: 13366
In some conditions, HA systems when running Auto-Sync, may not failover as
expected.
Workaround:
Remove Auto-Sync services from each node, and mark the pool as repaired.
Unable to install RSF-1 using a MAC client due to terminal type
Description: SUS-73
I cannnot accept the HA Cluster EULA when I log in from a MAC client due to
the terminal type settings.

Issues with SuperMicro

physical view in NMV

Description: 13297
When using SuperMicro hardware where the shared JBOD(s) have been
manually setup using NMC, and in an HA configuration, the physical view of the
JBOD in NMV may not display correctly on one of the nodes.
Workaround:
Manually configure the shared JBOD(s) using the NMC setup jbod model
command on both nodes prior to failover. If the service has already been failed
over, issue the NMC setup jbod model on the node missing the JBOD physical
view.
Multi-NMS prohibits use of proxies when upgrading
Description: SUS-95, SUP-542, SUP-561
When upgrading using the NMC command setup appliance nms property
upgrade_proxy the proxy settings are not honored if Multi-NMS is enabled.
Multi-NMS is enabled by default.
Workaround:
Using NMC perform the following steps to disable Multi-NMS:
1) Decrease the size of NMS-pool
nmc:/$ setup appliance nms property srvpool_cnt_max -p 0 -y
2) Restart NMS:
nmc:/$ setup appliance nms restart
Share settings not retained on NMC/NMV manual export
Description:
NexentaStor does not save the share settings and auto-sync services when
manually exporting a pool from NMC or NMV. To avoid having to save and restore
the share settings.
Workaround:
To avoid saving and restoring the share settings, export the pool.
To export the pool using NMC:
1. Log in to bash:
nmc:/$ option expert_mode=1
nmc:/$ !bash

Microsoft Identity Management for UNIX (IDMU) authentication not
supported
Description: 13535
If you have previously configured the idmap service to use IDMU mapping
through NMC by typing:
nmc:/$ option expert_mode=1
nmc:/$ !bash
# svccfg -s svc:/system/idmap setprop \ config/
directory_based_mapping = astring: idmu
Select from the following options:
Remove this configuration change by reverting to the default name based
mapping strategy.
Delay your upgrade until enhancement #13535 support idmap config/
directory_based_mapping = idmu is implemented
To verify that you have this idmap configuration setting:
1. Log in to bash:
nmc:/$ option expert_mode=1
nmc:/$ !bash
2. Type:
# svccfg -s svc:/system/idmap listprop config
System response:
config/directory_based_mapping astring idmu
This output indicates that IDMU is enabled.
While we believe this impacts a very small number of existing customers, we
are currently working on a solution.
