Lesson Topic School Vocabulary & Parts of Speech: Nouns,
Verbs, and Adjectives Overview of Lesson Students will learn school vocabulary as well as grammar in regards to parts of speech They will be introduced to nouns, verbs, and adjectives as the practice with a variety of activities throughout the lesson. Description of Learners, Intended Learning Goals, and Lesson Content Audience~ Learners are in 6 th and 7 th grade with about 2- 3 years of classwork of English. Their overall speaking ability is low to moderately low. The gender distribution is approximately even. There are about 25 students who live in Bogota, Colombia and are native Spanish speakers.
Learning Environment~ The school is a small school, Colegio Fundacion Nueva Granada located in Bogota, Colombia containing 550 children from a large range of ages. The technology level of the school is relatively low, but there are whiteboards, internet access, and a projector. This lesson plan will make use of the projector for a powerpoint presentation.

Learning Goals~ Learn basic school vocabulary words. Determine if a vocabulary word is a noun, verb, or adjective. Explain what a noun, verb, and adjective do.
Road Map~ Orientation: Introduce Objectives to students; give vocabulary list (paper for each student, on powerpoint) Motivation: Explain how these words can be used to speak to others about school; The parts of speech is also essential to speaking/writing with clarity Information: 3 different Parts of Speech Presentations (Powerpoint) Application: 3 different activities following each parts of speech presentation 1) Pictionary; applying nouns 2) Charades; applying verbs 3) Description Mania; applying adjectives and nouns Evaluation: Quiz -Defining vocab words -Sort parts of speech in table -Define a noun, verb, and adjective Objectives
Given a list of nouns, students will be able to draw a picture of it in order to have another student guess the noun in 30 seconds. Given a list of nouns, students will be able to describe each one with three adjectives in 10 seconds. Given a list of verbs, students will be able to act out the action of the verb in order to have another student guess the verb in 30 seconds. Given a school vocabulary list of nouns, verbs, and adjectives, students will be able to define each word (and determine if it is a person, place, or thing if it is a noun) with at least 70% accuracy. Combined Orientation-Motivation Activity:
(Duration~ 2 minutes) Explain objectives and lesson topic to class. Discuss what parts of speech are and how they relate to everyday. Introduce/Review a vocabulary list pertaining to school. Discuss how school vocabulary can be incorporated to speak about school in english. Discuss the importance of learning parts of speech in order to speak/write with clarity.
Informational Activity: (Duration~ 5 minutes) Introduce Nouns with powerpoint presentation. Discuss with class
Application Activity: Pictionary (Duration~ 7 minutes) Split into two teams Member from Team 1 draw a noun out of a hat This team member will draw for 30 seconds Team 1 will guess during these 30 seconds If Team 1 guesses correctly, they receive 1 point. If Team 1 does not guess the noun in 30 seconds, Team 2 may have 1 guess. If Team 2 guesses correctly, they receive 1 point. Send a member of Team 2 to draw a noun out a hat and repeat process.

Application Activity: Description Mania (Duration~ 7 minutes) Display pictures on projector Students will write down 2 adjectives to describe the picture After 30 seconds to write the adjectives down, students may call out the adjectives to describe the noun
Evaluation Activity: Quiz! (Duration~7 minutes) Assessment Quiz: Students will be given a list of vocabulary words. 1) Define english word with spanish word. 2) Categorize the words into chart columns of nouns, verbs, and adjectives. **Students must complete this with at least 70% accuracy. In this article, it talks about teaching English in Nepal. They have been teaching English in Nepal from around the 1950s to today. They teach it in the schools there. The way the educators teach it there is through a traditional way of teaching. They teach grammar points to the students and vocabulary. Teachers that teach English in Nepal said it hard to a set lesson plan because not everything goes according to what they plan. When they teach the lesson, it depends on where the school is, what grade level, and the curriculum. The schools may be like the schools that we are talking about in this case where they do not have much technology. This article will help us because they are teaching English to another language. Also, they are teaching to an older grade level.

In this article it talks about people trying to teach English to a student with little English background. It interviews a student with little English background and it gets answers as to how they learn better. When people talked about their experiences they regret not being able to talk or understand people in English. They said that English is a hard language to learn and never it imagined it to me that hard. This was utilized into our lesson plan by providing motivation for the students to learn english since many regretted not learning english.
