"The date of independence

Since the power of transfer took place on the midnight of 14 and 15 August, the Indian Independence
Act 1947 recognised 15 August as the birthday of both Pakistan and India. The act states;
[18]

"As from the fifteenth day of August, nineteen hundred and forty-seven, two independent Dominions
shall be set up in India, to be known respectively as India and Pakistan."
Jinnah in his first broadcast to the nation stated;
[19]

"August 15 is the birthday of the independent and sovereign state of Pakistan. It marks the fulfilment
of the destiny of the Muslim nation which made great sacrifices in the past few years to have its
homeland."
It was on 15 August that the nation celebrated its birthday, however in subsequent years 14 August
was marked as the independence day.
[20]
The first commemorative postage stamps of the country,
released in July 1948, also gave 15 August 1947 as the independence day.
[21]
The night of 14-15 August
1947 coincided with 27 Ramadan 1366 of the Islamic calendar, which Muslims regard as a sacred
night.

POSTAGE STAMPS:
WITH 15TH AUGUST 1947 AS INDEPENDENCE DAY - ISSUED IN JULY 1948
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postage...n#1947_to_1971

Under the supervision of Sardar Abdur-Rab Nishter and with the efforts of Musarrat Hussain
Zuberi (both showing stamps to Liaquat Ali Khan, Pakistan's first prime minister), Pakistan
issued its first set of 4 first-class postage stamps on 9 July 1948. These stamps were issued in
denominations of 1 1/2 ana, 2 1/2 ana. 3ana and Re.1. These first three were imprinted with
images of the Sindh Assembly building, Karachi Airport and the Lahore Fort, respectively.
These images were captured by External Publicity department photographer Aftab Ahmad, and
the stamps were designed by two artists of the same department, namely Rasheed-ud-Din and
Muhammad Latif, while the fourth stamp and its corresponding folder were the brainchild of
famed artist Abdur Rahman Chughtai. An interesting feature of these stamps and folders is that
they were issued with the date "August 15, 1947" as Pakistan's Independence Day.

I support 15th of August 1947 bcoz of 27th Ramadhan, that was a message from
Almighty Allah, and not from the British King....

27th Ramadhan 1366 was on 15th of August 1947 (day). Fully agreed with the sun-
set theory too!

In Gregorian calendar a day is considered complete at midnight, simply stating, 14th
August 1947 was last day of British Rule on 'British India', even Jinnah sb didn't allow
to remove Union Jack till the completion of this day, and of course radio
announcements too.

What Indians / USA / ISRAEL / GEO think or say about it, we don't care. They are
nobody to decide. It's our country. We'll follow n support the truth! Celebrating
independence day on 14th or 15th doesn't make any or much difference, but we
must keep our record correct!
