Oracle Production Cser De*nitions
When s"ecifying the num%er of users "lanning to access the "roduction system; we
o%ser-e two categories of user8
<amed + .icensed Csers G the num%er of users that can "otentially log on to Oracle#
This is ty"ically s"ecifed in the "roduction systemHs Oracle software license; and is the
ma+imum num%er of users that may %e defned in the "roduction Oracle system;
whether actually logged on or not#
Pea4 %cti0e + /oncurrent Csers G the pea4 num%er of logged-on users that are
acti-ely using Oracle# These users interact regularly with the system#
Business Intelligence Query De*nitions
! queries can %e classifed into three %road categories8
0> 5im"le 9e#g#; How many "roducts were sold in a s"ecifc quarterI>
1> 'edium 9e#g#; Which "roduct contri%uted most to last monthHs re-enue in a
"articular regionI>
4> 6om"le+ 9e#g#; What is the %usiness trend for s"ecifc "roducts for the last three
yearsI>
Simple queries look at small amounts of data in the data%ase# 'ost of the time; they
will analyze %usiness information a-aila%le in summary ta%les# These queries take full
ad-antage of -tree and %itma" inde+es# 5im"le queries may also %e co-ered queries
where all felds required for the query may %e defned in the indices#
)edium queries demand more resources from the data%ase# !n addition to using
inde+es and summary ta%les; 'edium queries also (oin multi"le ta%les; and do
calculations and aggregations#
/omple- queries are the most com"le+; often in-ol-ing full-ta%le scans; which create a
su%stantial %urden on data%ase resources# ,ueries that analyze data for %usiness trends
require numerous sorting and multi"le (oining of o"erations; including calculations such
as summations and a-erages# 5ince these large queries use such a large "ortion of
system resources; it is im"ortant to limit the num%er of users when e+ecuting them#
>a Cser Data 1=B3 - Baw data is the actual source user data that is loaded into the
data%ase 9(ust the data in the ta%les>#
Data%ase size is ty"ically 1-4+ the size of the raw data to allow for inde+es; summaries
and aggregates# 5torage s"ace utilized is larger than the data%ase size to allow for logs;
tem"; scratch s"ace; etc#
7ot uncommon to see total storage s"ace used of u" to 02+ raw data at some
customers; this can %e reduced with data%ase data com"ression
(ntry Cser - Ty"ically run standard / o"timized "re-created queries or re"orts#
Intermediate Cser - Buns a mi+ of standard re"orts; %ut also "erforms some le-el of
ad-hoc queries and analysis# Does not ty"ically run e+tremely com"le+ queries that
access a large amount of %ase data; mostly runs analysis against small su%sets of data
or summaries#
