OBJECTIVES:

ABC Textiles Private Limited has been in the textile industry for over three decades. At
present, the company is the biggest source in the World for trusted and quality technical and
performance fabrics for use in wide range of outdoor fabrics like Tent and Fabrics for Awning,
Outdoor Furniture, Protective and Military Uniforms, Flags, Sport bags, Art and Hospital
applications. The progress of the company has been further fuelled by dedicated, technocratic
team members at all stages of their growth. Traditionally, it has focussed on B2B market
supplying fabric to product manufacturing firms serving end consumers. In continuation with a
vision to provide quality textile products from grey fabrics to finished fabrics with latest
technology in textile industry, it recognizes great opportunity to serve end consumers directly.

In this direction, ABC wants to understand and develop right set of properties in the fabric that
would best serve the interest of potential consumers. The objective of the product
development team is to work with the marketing team to understand consumer needs for
various properties in fabrics and further to recognize those functional chemicals that
complement each other and would serve those needs.
IDENTIFICATION OF PROBLEM:

Currently, the firm has a gamut of products having specific properties such as fire-resistance,
anti-fungal, UV resistance, water-proofing etc. However, not all the products have all the
properties. Each product has a property related to its specific application. For example: the
fabric which is fire-resistant may not be water-proof or the fabric and the fabric which is UV
resistant may not be anti-fungal. Hence, the firm requires a product, based on the inputs from
the Sales & Marketing team, which has various properties in a single product.

In the first phase, the main focus of the firm is to get these four properties in a single fabric,
which shall be used for outdoor activities/applications:
a. Ultra-Violet Radiation Resistant
b. Dirt Repellent
c. Anti-Fungal or Anti-Rot Finish
d. Longevity of the product should be high
METHODOLOGY OF STUDY

In co-ordination with the Sales & Marketing Team, the New Product Development team is
expected to research about the various additives and functional chemicals that would give the
required properties to the final product.

Moreover, the testing of the product shall take place in the laboratory situated at Khandwa
Road. The Sales & Marketing Team shall be providing us with the inputs, which shall be used to
create the new product.
