My interests in music technology came from when I studied music Btec gcse and

I learned about the areas of the music industry. I liked the idea of becoming a
sound engineer so I decided to do music technology lvl 3. I have always been
interested in music, throughout secondary school I played: Guitar, bass and
piano. I would usually just play them as a hobby with friends and then decided to
choose music as a career. However I never liked the idea of performing in front
of people.

I chose the course because I wanted to become a sound engineer, and to get
there I knew I had to do a music technology course. This would allow me to gain
the skills and experience to either study it further in university or give me the
means to get a job in that area. I chose this specific course and college because I
wanted more hands on experience and I didnt want to study it in an
environment that wasnt at all close to that of a professional recording studio.

The course has taught me a range of different skills: The basics of music
software, which was logic pro 9/x, Editing audio, creating music. I have also
gained confidence in recording my voice in audio books and podcasts. I also
learned how to use a midi keyboard and how to set up a microphone. Learning
about background noise and acoustics in a room.

In my second year I hope to learn more live sound and learn about recording
studios. I think this would give me the skills I need to become a sound engineer. I
also am interested in being able to master a song and to understand how to use a
compressor and EQ effectively in my music. I think that its necessary for me to
learn these skills.

Outside of college I produce my own music, and I try to practice using different
effects and techniques to develop my skills. I am also volunteering for a radio
station to gain further experience.

In the future I look to be a sound engineer. I would like to be on live sound for
either festivals or at theaters. I would like to get experience in venues doing live
sound to put on my cv. I hope that getting more experience via volunteer work or
internships would allow me to get a better job in a venue like the o2.
I am thinking of studying live sound at uni however I think that getting
experience at a younger age would be more valuable.

I am also looking into radio, and I wouldnt want to be a presenter however Im
interested in more behind the senses. I would be interested in making jingles and
doing sound for a radio station.
