Keynote 1: Victor Lagunes: Mexicos Path to Tech Innovation
Chief Technology Officer, Office of the President of Mexico
Victor Lagunes role is two-fold, the first one is to manage the I.T.
operations to the inside of Presidency Office; and the second one
is to help create e-government federal public policy, focusing on
consolidation, information security and interoperability initiatives. He
got his Electrical and Telecommunications Engineering degree from
the Tecnolgico de Monterrey in 1998. He moved to Canada to pursue
an MBA at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, place where
he stayed the next 9 years. During this time, he first worked for TELUS
Communications, building solutions for the Government sector; and then
started a consulting practice, focusing on technology integration, green
data center initiatives, cloud-sourcing and information security. He is
extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve his country

Keynote 3: Jay Duncanson Will startup history repeat itself?
CoFounder of Ascend Communications
Jay Duncanson is one of four co-founders of Ascend Communications,
which was acquired by Lucent for $24 billion in 1999, the largest corporate
merger in U.S. history to that date. Founded in 1989, Ascend competed
with Cisco and 3Com, among others in the networking space, creating
equipment that was key to the Internet buildout of the 1990s. Ascend
became an S&P 500 company whose stock split three times in one year
and reached over 100 times its original IPO valuation. Year-over-year sales
consistently topped $1 billion. As an engineer, Jay holds multiple networking
patents and was a key designer of many of Ascends early products. As
a marketing executive, he was Ascends direct interface to the press. As
a co-founder, he worked closely with Ascends venture capital investors
and was active in all pre-IPO investment rounds, including Ascends IPO
roadshow presentations in 1994.

Mike Maples, Jr. is the managing partner of FLOODGATE, and was
recently named as one of 8 Rising VC Stars by Fortune Magazine for
his investments in business and consumer technology companies. Before
becoming a full-time investor, Mike was an entrepreneur and operating
executive who worked in a variety of senior management roles in highgrowth companies. His background spans a variety of markets including
consumer technology, small business, and the enterprise, and he has

CEO, BCG Digital Ventures
Jeff serves as the Global CEO of Boston Consulting Groups Digital
Ventures. He has more than 20 years of leadership experience in business
strategy, innovation, venture development, digital consumer technology,
advertising, sales and retail/consumer marketing, as well as extensive
project experience in CRM projects. Jeff is considered a global expert in
CRM, customer analytics and loyalty programs, and previously served as
the one of three founders and Managing Director of Booz Digital. Prior to
that, he was the Managing Director and Founder of Axon Advisory partners,
an innovation firm advising CXOs on their most important strategic digital
issues, and was the Chief Marketing officer and Chief Strategy Officer and
Executive Vice President of The Sports Authority. He began his career in
leadership positions in IBMs technology practice, Accentures technology
and strategic practice, and as a partner in the North American Marketing
and Sales practice at McKinsey & Company.

Keynote 5: Carey Kolaja - The Future of Payments
Vice President of Global Solutions Management, PayPal
Carey Kolaja is the Vice President of Global Solutions Management within
the product team at PayPal. In this role, she leads a global team focused
on ensuring that products and solutions for the Americas, Asia Pacific,
and Europe, the Middle East, and Africa reflect the needs of customers
in each local market. Previously, Carey served as Chief of Operations for
Global Product at PayPal, where she led all aspects of business, financial,
and organization performance. Before that, Carey was the head of the
emerging opportunities product group where she led a new global product
function, which was chartered to identify and nurture new product ideas
and strategic partnerships to drive multichannel commerce beyond the
core payments business. Carey began her career at eBay as a leader in
the technology organization where she held various positions from 2003
through 2006. In March 2006, Carey moved over to PayPal as a Director of
Global Marketing Technology and Operations, responsible for the strategic
development and execution of PayPals direct marketing capabilities and
customer analytics. She holds more than 18 years of diverse experience
within the financial services and technology consulting industry in various
operational and leadership roles for companies of all sizes, including
UBS Warburg, Waterstone Consulting, Windomar Financial, and divine
interVentures.
Carey is on the board of advisors for OLO and Nearbuy Systems. Both
companies are changing the offline retail landscape through the use of
mobile technologies. Carey holds a B.S. from the University of Indiana and is
a graduate from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Keynote 6 Enrique Jacob: Mexico & Entrepreneurship
President of Mexicos INADEM
Enrique Jacob Rocha is the head of President of Mexicos Instituto
Nacional del Emprendedor (INADEM). As president of the INADEM,
the national entrepreneurial institute, Mr. Rocha focuses on developing
frameworks and resources to benefit traditional and high impact
entrepreneurs in Mexico. Mr. Rocha has served in a variety of capacities
to promote entrepreneurship; during 2012-2013 he was Undersecretary
of Economy for Medium and Small Enterprises, from 2009-2012 he
served as a state Congressman and was head of the planning and
budget commission, and also served as the Secretary of Economic
Development for the State of Mexico from 2005-2009

Daniel M. Green focuses his practice
on assisting private and public
companies with general corporate
and transactional matters, including venture capital
financings, public offerings, and mergers and
acquisitions. He is fluent in Spanish, and has broad
experience representing technology companies
and venture capitalists from Latin America and
Iberia, as well as U.S. investors and companies doing
business in that region. Dan also serves as a judge in
the Start-Up Chile program and is an active mentor
and panelist with Endeavor. Dan was recently
invited to Mexico City by the U.S. State Department
and Mexicos National Entrepreneurship Institute
(INADEM) to share best practices and participate in
discussions on legislative reform in Mexico to foster
greater innovative entrepreneurship and early stage
investment and also serves on the Legal Framework
Subcommittee of the Mexico-United States
Entrepreneurship and Innovation Council (MUSEIC).
Dan also advises on fund formation matters for
venture and angel funds focused on Latin America
and beyond. He is a graduate of Stanford University,
and Harvard Law School.
Mark Reinstra

Mark Reinstra is a partner at Wilson
Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he
practices corporate and securities
law. Marks practice covers a broad range of general
corporate, securities, and transactional matters,
including venture capital financings, public offerings,
and mergers and acquisitions. He represents private
and public companies across many industries,
including Internet infrastructure, e-commerce,
semiconductors, software, professional services,
and life sciences enterprises. Mark also represents
investment banks in connection with public
offerings of equity securities and debt instruments.
Mark currently teaches New Venture Finance at UC
Berkeley School of Law. Hehas alsohas lectured at the
Haas Business School at the University of California,
Berkeley, regarding the initial public offering process;
and at The Wharton School Entrepreneurs Workshop.
He is a former co-chair of two Practicing Law Institute
seminars, titled Understanding the Securities Laws
and Counseling Clients in the New Economy. Mark

Hale Boggs
Partner, ManattJones / Chairman,

Mr. Boggs is a partner in Manatts
Corporate/Finance, Capital Markets
and Venture Capital practice areas.
He splits his time between the firms Los Angeles
and northern California offices. He founded Manatts
Palo Alto office in 1998, and helped to establish
the firms San Francisco office in 2007. Mr. Boggs
chairs the firms nationwide Business Development
Committee and serves on the Compensation
Committee and Executive Committee. He also is
the chairman of Manatt Digital Media, and presides
over the investment committee for Manatt Digitals
venture investments. Mr. Boggs practice focuses
primarily on corporate and securities matters,
including venture capital transactions, mergers and
acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, public and
private securities offerings and joint ventures. He
works with companies across the spectrum of their
business cycles, from start-up through late-stage,
with a particular emphasis on companies in the digital
media industry. Mr. Boggs expertise includes venture
capital and other equity and debt financings, equity
compensation matters, SEC reporting and disclosure,
intellectual property licensing, complex corporate
partnering transactions and corporate governance.
He also represents venture capital firms in fund
formation and counseling matters. He frequently
assists clients in structuring creative arrangements to
acquire, develop, protect and distribute technologies

Andreas Kraemer

For more than two decades, Andreas
has successfully served venture
capital firms, investment banks
and
distinguished
corporations
throughout the world. He is known for his ability to
lead companies through periods of major change
and growth, specializing in areas of financial planning,
forecasts and valuations, as well as strategic initiatives
such as fundraising, M&A and joint ventures. With
a keen ability for leveraging personal contacts, his
industry exposure has supported various industries
and organizations, which include high tech, software,
communications, energy and Cleantech, agriculture,
chemicals, automotive, capital goods, banking, and
service organizations. Andreas served as Investment
Manager for Enron Corporations venture capital
group which returned over $85MM to the company
during his tenure. Earlier in his career, he worked
as investment banker at Credit Suisse and UBS in

Brad Holden is a partner with

an
early-stage
venture fund founded in 2009 by Eric

has 70 investments in 21 cities around the world that
range from consumer Internet technology to digital
media and gaming to specialty finance. Investments
include Legendary Entertainment, Maker Studios,
Backplane, Prosper, Beautycounter, Shape Security and
Sharecare. Since 2010, Brad has worked closely with the
existing portfolio companies, sourced and closed new
investments and coordinated the legal process for
TomorrowVentures. He has helped grow the portfolio
from 5 investments to 70 during his time at
TomorrowVentures. Prior to joining TomorrowVentures,
Brad was a corporate associate in the Palo Alto office of
Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. His practice involved
representing publicly and privately held companies and
venture capital funds in a broad range of corporate and
transactional matters, including mergers and acquisitions,
public and private placement of securities, securities
regulation, and general corporate governance. Brad
received his law degree magna cum laude from
Georgetown University Law Center where he was a
member of the Order of the Coif and received his B.A. in
International Politics & Economics from Middlebury
College.
Alex Mendez
Managing Director, Storm Ventures
Alex is a founding Managing Director
of Storm Ventures. He is passionate
about working with seed and early
stage entrepreneurs and companies.
Alex currently focuses on anything and everything
mobile and all software that creates value for
customers in the B2B space. He thinks that the
transformation of IT from vertical stove pipes to a
true horizontal utility will create unprecedented
opportunities for value creation over the next couple
of decades. Alex writes a blog at alexmendez.org.
Mobile investments include Cellfire (digital coupon
distribution platform), Flint Mobile (mobile payment
solution for micro merchants), and MiCel (post paid
mobile voice/data services). Alex was also one of the
first investors and board members of Airespace
(enterprise WLAN platforms; acquired by Cisco).
Software investments include Rafter, fka BookRenter,
(higher education course materials platform), and
Restorando (mobile and online reservations for
Latam market). Prior investments include Qumu
(video management platform, acquired by Rimage),

and Sanera Systems (director class SAN switch,


acquired by McData). Alex served as a public board
member at Mcdata. He is also an advisor to Rearden
Commerce. Prior to Storm Ventures, he spent twentyone years in networking and computing at ROLM,
IBM, Stratacom, and Cisco in several executive
positions. He was part of the founding team at
Stratacom, which Cisco acquired ($4.3 billion) in
1996. He was a SVP/GM during Ciscos high growth
era (1996-2000), where sales grew from $4B to
$20B, employees from 8,000 to 40,000 and 63
companies were acquired. Alex holds a BSEE from
Stanford University and an MBA from Santa Clara
University. He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina
and speaks both Spanish and German fluently. He is
an avid pilot, golfer and skier, and enjoys traveling.
John Occhipinti
Managing Partner, Relay Ventures
John is a Partner at Relay Ventures, an
early stage venture fund exclusively
focused on mobile software. John
has over 20 years of experience in
enterprise software technology, marketing, and
sales. Previously he was Managing Director of
Woodside Fund where he focused on ventures in
cloud computing, online advertising technology
and software. John presently sits on the boards of
Appcelerator, PubNub, Rally, and advises Graffiti Labs.
Prior to joining Woodside Fund, John was an early
executive at Netscape Communications. Initially, John
led a team that drove the companys first significant
revenues, helping launch Netscape through its initial
public offering. Later, John ran Netscapes Electronic
Software Distribution and Strategic Channel groups.
During his tenure at Netscape, John worked closely
with hundreds of early stage entrepreneurs helping
build web-based e-commerce and enterprise
software applications. Prior to Netscape, John
worked at Oracle Corporation, marketing and
selling large-scale enterprise database technologies.
John has an MBA from the University of California,
Berkeley, Walter A. Haas School of Business, and a
BA from the University of California Berkeley. He
currently serves on the Board of Directors at Trinity
School. John is based in our Menlo Park, CA office.

Lynne is a Co-Founder of the MITA
Institute, and Managing Partner of
MITA Ventures, based in Punta Mita,
Mexico and San Francisco. After a successful career
as a Vice President of Merrill Lynch, Lynne relocated

Jordi Muoz is co-founder and
CTO of 3D Robotics. He was born

in Ensenada, Mexico, and raised in Tijuana. At the


age of 13 he started repairing all kind of electronics
including laptops and installing small house networks
for his friends and family for free. He spent most of
his childhood playing with Legos, electronics and
inventing his own robots, but at the same time he
felt an unique attraction for aircrafts. He studied
briefly at Ensenadas Center for Technical and Higher
Education before moving to southern California in
2007, where in his free time he designed and built
his first drone. The autopilot ran on circuitry he lifted
from a Wii remote. Soon Jordi was making a living off
his ingenuity. He hacked a toaster that he bought at
Target, turned it into a reflow oven, and set up a small
manufacturing facility in his apartment, designing
UAV parts and selling them to pilots around the world.
Jordis work impressed Chris Andersonthe two met
virtually through the DIY Drones online community
who supported Jordi with an initial $500 check. Chris
continued to advise Jordis production efforts over
email, and in 2009 the two co-founded 3D Robotics.
In 2012, Chris quit Wired to join Jordi full time. Jordi
lives with his family in San Diego.
