This document describes how to run the CRUISE software. It does not attempt to discuss all of
concepts of vehicle simulation that are required to obtain successful solutions. It is the users
responsibility to determine if he/she has sufficient knowledge and understanding of vehicle
simulation to apply this software appropriately.

quality and performance is with the user. Should either the software or this document prove

1. INTRODUCTION
This document describes how to install the CRUISE program from CD-ROM on Intel
Processor-based PCs running under Windows.

1.1. Symbols
The following symbols are used throughout this manual. Safety warnings must be strictly
observed during operation and service of the system or its components.

Caution: Cautions describe conditions, practices or procedures which


could result in damage to, or destruction of data if not strictly observed or
remedied.

Note: Notes provide important supplementary information.

Convention

Meaning

For emphasis, to introduce a new term.

monospace

To indicate a command, a program or a file name,


messages, or input / output on a screen or file contents.

MENUOPT

A MENUOPT font is used for the names of menu options,


submenus and screen buttons.

1.2. Configurations
Software configurations described in this manual were in effect on the publication date of
this manual. It is the users responsibility to verify the configuration of the equipment
before applying procedures in this manual.

3. INSTALLATION FOR WINDOWS


CRUISE can be installed on a PC with the Windows operating system from a CD or the zip
can be downloaded from the Service World.

3.1. Start Up
To begin CRUISE installation, insert the CD in the PC. If the setup program does not
start automatically, perform the following steps:

Use Explorer to show the contents of the CD.

Find the file Setup.exe.

3.

Execute this file by double clicking it.

3.2. CRUISE Installation


The Installer will guide you through the installation process. Please confirm to overwrite
existing files if the installer asks for permission to do this.

3.2.1. Installation Settings


In the Cruise installation routine, the following options are available:

Server Installation
One central CRUISE installation will be set up.
Should the installation folder be write protected for a single user, user specific
CRUISE files (projects, config etc.) will be created in the local folder "My
Documents\AVL\Cruise\vNr".
Recommended for single user computers, where the user has the administrator rights.

Private Installation
User specific CRUISE files will be created in the local folder "My
Documents\AVL\Cruise\vNr", no matter if the central installation is write protected or
not. Recommended for multi user computers, where the users have no administrator
rights.

Common Installation
User specific CRUISE files will be created in the local folder "all
users\AVL\Cruise\vNr" for all users, no matter if the central installation is write
protected or not. Recommended for the team computers, where several users have no
administrator rights but want to share common files such as projects, config etc.

3.3. Uninstall
To uninstall CRUISE, open the CONTROL PANEL window by clicking Start - Settings Control Panel. Double click the Add/Remove Programs symbol to open the window, then
select AVL Cruise v2010 and then select Add/Remove.
(Administrator privileges are required to proceed with reinstallation.)
The CONFIRM FILE DELETION window appears. Select Yes to continue.
The UNINSTALL COMPLETE WINDOW appears. This confirms successful uninstallation.
Select OK to exit.

4. LICENSING
The installation and setup process is described in the AST Licensing Users Guide.

4.1.1. Requesting a license


If you have not received a license key, request one from your local representative or from
AVL Graz (ast_license@avl.com).
Include the following information:

Software Product

Name

Telephone, Fax, E-Mail address

Company

System ID

Local installation:

on every computer where the AVL CRUISE software


should be used

Network installation:

on the license server computer

Installation Type (Node locked, Network)

For Windows this information can be extracted by using a utility under


Start | Programs | AVL | License | License Request.

4.1.2. Expected FLEXnet Hostids


The program lmhostid will print the exact hostid that FLEXnet expects to use on any
given machine. The following table gives an alternative method to obtain the required
hostid.
