ABOUT COMTRACS CORPORATE TEA TALK


The Companies Commission of Malaysia Training
Academy (COMTRAC) was established on 1 April
2007 to spearhead the Companies Commission of
Malaysia's (SSM) external stakeholders training
initiatives. Its mission is to train and educate
corporate role-players comprising directors, company
secretaries, the management and employees of
companies, auditors, entrepreneurs, innovators and
members of the professional bodies.
COMTRACs new Business Plan entails the
periodical organization of Corporate Tea Talks to
inculcate knowledge and awareness, promote
deliberations amongst the stakeholders and explore
new boundaries in related corporate topics. The
Corporate Tea Talk is organized free-of-charge and
is open for interested members of the public to
attend. This programme is also part of SSMs
corporate responsibility
ABOUT THE TOPIC
The New Economic Model and the Tenth Malaysia
Plan contains substantial discussion on the
innovation. Both documents have identified
innovation as the main catalyst towards achieving the
objective of high income developed nation. One of
the methodologies of innovation is the Blue Ocean

Strategy, a business strategy developed by W. Chan
Kim and Renee Mauborgne. The Blue Ocean
Strategy book was first published in 2005 and
immediately received positive raving response from
the business community. The Malaysian Government
took special interest in the Blue Ocean Strategy and
established the Malaysia Blue Ocean Strategy
Institute in 2008. Among others, the strategy
discusses the quest for Value Innovation, creating
demand, how to create uncontested market space
and how to break away from being a structuralist to a
reconstructionist. The speaker will examine the key
aspects of the Blue Ocean Strategy and its linkage
with the company secretarial profession in Malaysia.
LEARNING OUTCOME
By attending this programme, the participants will be
able to:
understand and apply the basic concept of
innovation and the Blue Ocean Strategy in their
profession;
innovate and add value into their existing
profession; and
advice companies and board of directors on the

importance innovation in the 21 century business
environment.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER


Azryain Borhan is the Director of COMTRAC. He also
currently advises the Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia
(PR1MA) Unit in the Prime Ministers Office. Upon
joining SSM in April 2007, Azryain was posted as the
Director of Corporate Development & Policy Division.
He was seconded to the Special Innovation Unit
(UNIK) of the Prime Ministers Office between August
2009 and April 2010. Previously, Azryain served
Khazanah Nasional Bhd as Assistant Vice President,
Legal & Secretarial and the Securities Commission

as Senior Prosecuting Officer and Senior Associate


in the Securities Issues Division. Azryain graduated
with an LLB (Hons) from the International Islamic
University Malaysia and upon admission as an
advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya,
practiced briefly with Messrs. Khaw & Partners and
Messrs. Zul Rafique & Partners in the areas of
corporate advisory and general litigation.
