SAEINDIA

Baja SAEINDIA is a national level competition that simulates real-world

engineering design projects and their related challenges. Engineering students are
tasked to design, build, test and race a single-seated off-road vehicle that will
survive the severe punishment of rough terrain at Pithampur in February 2013.
The objective of the competition is to provide SAE student
members with a challenging project that involves the planning and
manufacturing tasks found when introducing a new product in the
consumer market. Students design the Baja car as if it is a
prototype for a company, so cost, appearance, reliability, and
performance all become key factors in judging. Rule guidelines
place restrictions on the engine and frame, testing the imagination,
knowledge, and creativity of the students.

Static Events
Students describe in detail the methods used to design the car, and covers all
car systems from Chassis to Safety. Safety/Technical inspections also take place.

Dynamic Events
Involve tests such as acceleration, suspension/traction, hill
climbing and land and water manoeuvrability.

Endurance Race
The highlight of the competition which lasts typically 4
hours or 100 miles. A track with a wide variety of natural and
man-made obstacles is specially created for the size and speed of a
typical Baja car. Essentially, this is the ultimate test of a car, and
only the best and strongest finish.

The organizing body, SAEINDIA, is India's leading resource for mobility

technology. It is an affiliate society of SAE International registered as an Indian
non-profit engineering and scientific society dedicated to the advancement of
mobility industry in India.
Its efforts are on now with a single minded purpose to propel
the automotive engineering profession by focusing on three trends
occurring in the automotive industry today that affect all
automotive engineers and engineering societies. The first of these
trends is simultaneous engineering the integration of the roles of
design engineer, manufacturing engineer, supplier, marketer, and
planner. The second trend is the increased reliance of auto
manufacturers on suppliers and design houses to support the
design and manufacturing functions. A third factor crucial to an
internationalized auto industry is standards as communication, as a
basis for regulation, and as an aid to interchangeability.

BAJA 2013. IIT Indore has already emerged as a prime contender,

IIT Indore has already emerged as a prime contender, being the first and only
new IIT to qualify virtual Baja. Our team has made it through among 262 teams from
all over the country. We also beat notable colleges like IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT
Jodhpur, etc. to move into the final round.
We are right on time with the procurement of equipment and parts and have
already finished fabricating our roll cage. The vehicle should be ready after all testing
and inspection checks by 15th January, 2013!
