Camouflage of Politics: No Real Change

Mr. Modi makes it very clear that he totally understands the requirements of urgent changes
which are supposed to be made in governance and laws. He said government has no business to
be in business2 but on the contrary Modis minister either do not acknowledges the urgencies or
do not understand what PM wants to say.
Before elections, Modi has been talking about mandates and changes because most of Indians
were wanting a radical change in the ignominious situation of the country which has worsen in
the past ten years. However the BJP government has not even taken baby steps to accomplish
their big promises and commitments; for example Modi use to talk about removing Inspector
Raj which means too much bureaucracy in our systems, but there has been no initiative taken by
the government to amend any rules which regulate the service conditions of the bureaucrats.
Another example, our current Finance minister, Mr Jaitely has nevertheless on every occasion
and more oftenly in the public address meetings acknowledges the dire need of amending the
laws pertaining to land acquisition, which were legislated during the UPA regime which makes it
onerous for buyers at the time of purchase of any land inspite of Mr Jaitelys admission during

his campaigning that, due to the existing law it is not easy even for government to take any land
for security reasons, but in spite of repealing this law, he shares his plans to tweak these laws.
Why doesnt our Finance minister understand that such steps and plans will not take us close to
the parivartan which our Prime Minister talks about? Has he not noticed that investors all over
the world have been shying away from making any investments in India, because the prevailing
laws?3
Our union minister for corporate affairs, Nirmala Sitharam, says that Amendments to
Companies Act may not be necessary and even adds we have made good progress in terms of
addressing the concerns on the Companies Act when there has been no changes till now and all
the investors consider companies act as a barrier for investments.
None of the ministers appear to take any step in the direction of so called ACCHE DIN which
was a jibe during the elections. Our ministers have failed to acknowledge that we are one of the
least developed nations because of our trade restrictive rules and policies. Our labor laws are not
helping in creating jobs on the contrary they are so stringent, rigid and prime facie they are not
employer friendly and have vested more rights on the employees which is somewhere or the
other detrimental for the growth of industries as the law must seek to create a balance between
the interest of the employer and the employee. We are the fourth largest importers of coal but the
glitch here is that, we already have a fair amount of coal reserves however instead of changing
our coal policies the government seems to be searching for some magic stick which will get
ACCHE DIN FOR INDIA.
Although there might be small percentage of people in India, who can afford expensive schools
and luxurious hospitals but the majority of the country has no other option than relying on
government schools and hospitals and well we all know that what quality of education is
imparted in such schools and five star services being provided in government hospitals which
owing to these services are considered to be the worst place to visit in case of medical
emergency at least. Even after having a huge list of stakeholders of such institution and hospitals,
our health minister has turn a deaf ear to such issues and is no way near from giving to India its
new health policy4. The much appreciated move by our Prime Minister (i.e. the CLEANLINESS

DRIVE) must also be carried out in the Government hospital too. Moreover as the PM boasts
about his journey from a tea vendor at railway station to 7 Race course must also ensure that his
cleanliness drive is also carried out at railway stations too where he once worked. The Minister
of Human Resource Development has so far failed to grasp the importance of her job and has
still not overcome her defeat in Amethi and nevertheless has started preparing for the next
elections as she has recently sent 12000 saris for the womens in Amethi5 to lure them for voting
her in the next Lok sabha eletions. However it is high time Mrs. Smriti Irani must not forget the
fact that she is a HRD minister and is no more contesting elections in Amethi at least in the
coming five years.
On the political front, the Prime Minister has been remarkably successful. The results from
Maharashtra and Haryana prove that he has lost none of his appeal, but in the end what will bring
real parivartan are his policies in the economic and social sectors and not by his speeches about
others son in law or about his own dressing sense6. In the end I can epitomize with words of
Kemal Ataturk from 1923 when he was rebuilding Turkey from the ruins of the Ottomon
EmpireNo matter how great they are, political and military victories cannot endure unless they are
crowned by economic triumphs7
