Method of Instruction: Class sessions will include lectures, problem solving, and class discussion. There may be some class
time devoted to group and individual class work, which will count toward your grade. Students should be active participants
in the classroom. Students are encouraged to ask questions and seek clarification of issues when necessary.
Attendance is critical to the success of the student in the class. Preparation for the class should include reading the textbook
chapter, reviewing lecture notes and power point slides, and working on the listed textbook problems. In addition, students
should bring to class the textbook, along with a copy of any class handouts for the chapter being discussed (can download
from my website). If missing a class, students are responsible for information covered, as well as any changes in
assignments.
MyAccountingLab (MAL) Website: http://myaccountinglab.com/. This website is an essential part of this course and will
be used by all students to complete the Homework section of the class, which is a required component of your grade.
To access MAL for the first time, you need to register and log in. Whenever you want to use MAL after that, you just need
to log in. You can do both from the same starting point at www.myaccountinglab.com. The following information relates to

Exams: There will be 3 exams given in this class, each worth 100 points. Exams will consist of true/false and multiple
choice questions. No make-up exams will be given. An unexcused absence from an exam will result in a grade of zero for
that exam.
Exams will be given in the College of Business Testing Lab located in BA-II, Room 104, under a flexible testing environment.
The flexible testing environment allows you to take the exam in the testing lab anytime during a scheduled range of days for that
particular exam. You will access the exams through Webcourses. The schedule for each exam is listed on the last page of the
syllabus. You will be allowed up to 150 minutes to complete each exam. Please keep track of your time while taking the exam
because you will not be allowed any additional time once the 150 minutes have expired. Please note that you must finish the
exam no later than the closing time of the testing lab for the last scheduled day of the exam. Testing lab hours are posted at the
testing lab website as well at the end of the syllabus.
You may bring with you to each exam the following:
(1) a 3x5 handwritten or typed index card (front and back)
(2) calculator. (graphing or programmable calculator not permitted)
No other items will be allowed for the exam. Scrap paper will be available in the testing lab. The note card and scrap paper
must be turned in upon exiting the testing lab after finishing the test. Please note that each student will be required to present a
valid UCF Student ID in order to enter the lab.
Cheating: Use of any item in the testing lab other than those listed above is not allowed and will constitute cheating. Accessing
any internet resource, including class notes is also considered cheating. In addition, providing information to other students
regarding test questions and answers prior to the end of the testing date is not allowed and is also considered cheating.
Homework: You may use any class materials available while working on Homework including the textbook, class notes,
completed problems, etc. There will be an assignment for each chapter covered, a total of 11 assignments overall. Each
assignment will be worth a maximum of 10 grade points. Your grade points for each assignment will be calculated by taking
your overall percentage score for that assignment times 10 points. For example, if you earn 85% of the total points for
Homework assignment #1, you would get 8.5 grade points for that assignment (85% x 10 = 8.5 pts). Since there are 11
homework assignments, it is possible to earn up to a total of 110 points (11 x 10), which is essentially one additional extra credit
assignment built into the homework grade, since it is only counted out of 100 points in the denominator portion of your grade
percentage.
Homework due dates are listed on the last page of the syllabus and assignments cannot be completed after the due date.
Class Assignments/ Quizzes: There will be unannounced class assignments/ quizzes given throughout the semester. The
assignments may be worth varying amounts of points individually, however, they will be worth 50 points in total during the
semester. You must be in class to get credit for completing the assignments. The assignments/quizzes will be open book and
open notes and some of the assignments may be completed in groups.
Tutoring Services: The accounting tutoring lab is located in BA 241. Hours for the lab are on the first page of the syllabus,
as well as posted on the class website. If you are in need of assistance with class material, please use the available
tutoring resources. Since this is a fast-paced course over only a 6 week period, it is imperative that you stay up with
class material from Day 1 of this class.
