Before installing Symantec Anti-Virus, check your computer for other versions of
Anti-virus software. New machines come with versions of Anti-Virus pre-installed,
but their licenses are usually on a trial basis (Three to Twelve months.) If you do
not remove your existing Anti-virus software, you may have a conflict with
Symantecs version.
To remove your current AV software, follow these steps:
1. Click Startthen Control Panel.

5. Proceed with the Symantec installation instructions below
If you already have a version of Norton AV installed, you should install the new
version over the top.
AntiVirus Installation Instructions
NOTE: Steps colored blue (6, 8, and 9) will only occur during a new installation.
1.

Insert the CD into the drive; the installation menu should begin automatically. If
the menu does not appear, do the following:
a. Double-click on My Computeron the desktop, or find My Computerwithin
the start menu.
b. Double-click on the CD drive where the CD has been inserted, usually Drive D.

Using Liveupdate to Keep Your Virus Subscription Current

Your Antivirus software is only as good as the definitions it has to protect you. For this
reason it is vital to run Liveupdate immediately after installing the software and
enabling Automatic Liveupdates (See next section).
