INTRODUCTION OF THE TOPIC:

3
i) The concept of corporate governance for higher education
predominantly refers to the internal structure, institution and
management like in case of universities:- Visitors/Chancellor, Board of
Management, Academic Council, Finance Committee, Board of
Studied, Vice-Chancellor and Academic Deans etc.

ii) Corporate Governance is the way in which an organization is

controlled and governed in order to achieve its objectives and operate
with integrity. Think of it as the glue that hold and organization
together.

iii) Due to influences of public sector reforms, the concept of shared and
participative governance, a new form of governance has emerged i.e.
the notion of Corporate Governance of institutions that has increasingly
become a more dominant approach to tertiary management.

iv) Corporate Governance in Higher Education is the straight forward point

of view on their policy in support of shared governance.

v) University governance is the way, in which universities are operated;

however, governing structures for higher education are highly
differentiated through the India, according to the status of the
university.

4
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

i) To study the issues related to the universities governance i.e.

involvement of faculty in decision making like, selection of
Administrators, preparation of budget estimates and determination of
educational policies.

ii) To study the relationship between faculty and administration,

characterizing, historical transitions and suggesting that the
universities today are undergoing transitions in culture.

iii) While doing the study, I would like go through the governance structure
followed in the Central Universities, State Universities, Deemed
Universities and Private Universities.

iv) To analyze the kind of structure followed by the universities according

to their status.

v) To identify various factors that contribute for the improvement of

Corporate Governance in the Indian Universities System.

vi) The development of objectives and strategies through corporate

planning and the establishment of control (polices, procedures, etc.) to
ensure that the objective will be met.

vii) Operational plans are developed from the objectives and from these
organizational structures and roles and responsibilities of governance
of the institutions are developed.

viii) A code of conduct provides members of the institutions with the

expected standard of behavior and is directed at fraud prevention and
creating a culture that favors continuous improvement.

5
ix) Delegations are put in place to ensure that responsibilities are matched
with the necessary authority.

x) To suggest measures to formulate such system with which structure of

the Corporate Governance can be improved in the University system.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY

i) Corporate governance is most often viewed as both the structure and

the relationships, which determine corporate direction and
performance.
ii) The corporate governance framework also depends on the legal,
regulatory, institutional and ethical environment of the university.
iii) Corporate Governance is concerned with holding the balance between
university and social goals.
iv) Corporate governance is about how universities are directed and
controlled. Good governance is an essential ingredient in corporate
success and sustainable economic growth of the university. Research
in governance requires an interdisciplinary analysis, drawing above all
on economics and law, and a close understanding of modern
educational system.
v) As such, in this section a detailed study of the problems will be
undertaken.
vi) To study Corporate governance is about "the whole set of legal,
cultural, and institutional arrangements that determine what
universities can do, who controls them, how that control is exercised,
vii) The scope of study will be extended to analyze the need and
importance of both faculty and administrative and behaviour structure
in educational planning and administration of the universities.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

The study is to be made with an objective and purpose. To make this study
purposeful, practical, logical, comprehensive and reliable, appropriate research
methodology is to be adopted.
Such methodology is to be utilized through which more and more accurate data
and information are collected.
Hence, the methodology of collecting both primary and secondary data will be
adopted.
Data so collected will be analyzed, processed and out of them relevant data will
be selected for reaching to a particular conclusion.

6
Primary Data

Survey method will be utilized to collect this data. The data will be obtained from
management, employees, HOD of different departments and the Union
functionaries, if any.
A target group will be classified, identified and specified for the purpose from
which the relevant data are to be collected. The target group will be identified
through sampling process.
The interaction and face to face discussion with some of the managerial, staff as
well as union functionaries will be arranged to collect direct information from
them and also to know their view points, opinions and comments.

Secondary Data

The Secondary data will be collected through the various work reports, annual
progress reports and functional reports of the universities concerned. The data
so collected will be compared with the primary data.

Data Processing

All the data so collected will be processed and analyzed minutely to reach to a
conclusion. A special care will be taken to select only relevant and reliable
information.
The finding of the study will be submitted in a form of detail report for further
study, application and utilization.

LIMITATIONS
Every report has certain limitations and this study and report will also not be
exempted. The reasons for limitations are various but most important of them
are:
Respondents not giving full and correct information
7
Respondents may become subjective and personal view may over rule facts.
However all the cares will be taken to make the report as reliable as possible by
scrutinizing each and every information and data, and only relevant data will be
included in the report.

FINDINGS AND ANALYSIS

The purpose of the study is to find out the different variables affecting the
success for implementation of various programmes to be implemented in the
universities.
On the basis of the data and information received through various sources,
certain facts may come into light, which will form the findings to be included in the
report.
The findings will form a base for reaching to a conclusion and also for taking any
remedial measure for further improvement of the functioning of the strategy.
In the light of the environment of global competition, it is imperative for any
university to have comparative advantage over its competitors to survive and
grow in the present, ever changing environment.
Though it is a complex exercise, but all efforts will be made to draw useful
findings through this study.

CONCLUSION
The over all-purpose of this study is to reach to a conclusion. The findings of the
report will enable the researcher to reach to a particular conclusion.
Whatever conclusion is derived at, will be mentioned in the report and any
person interested in the study carried out may go through the conclusion for
making any future decision.
Thus a brief summary of conclusion shall be included in this section.

Suggestion and Recommendation

8
On the basis of conclusion so reached, certain suggestions may be
recommended to the management, on which the management of the concerned
university may take any remedial measures, if required, and also to form a
strategic planning for the future.
Thus, steps to be taken by the management will be recommended. However, it is
up to the management whether to follow the suggestions or not.

Beneficiaries

Every report of a study is always beneficial to one group or the other. This study
will also benefit a number of persons or the sections of an organization related to
this problem directly or in directly. This is to be examined.
However, apparently this study will benefit directly to the university.
The report will also be beneficial to the students, research scholars, policy
makers and also to the universities management.
This study will benefit me too, as, during the study, I can get a chance to have
deep insight in the subject, which will help me in my future career.

APPENDIX

The additional information sheets and copy of required documents, such as

charts and graphs etc. will be appended at this section to supplement the
information and make the report exhaustive.

REFERENCES

In this section, a list of books, articles, reports and journals will be referred.
