Q.20
Solution:
According to Question the following variables are being selected:
P1= Number of units of Product 1 produced each week
P2= Number of units of Product 2 produced each week
OT= Number of hours of overtime labor used each week
RM= Number of units of Raw Material Purchased each week
A1= Dollars spend each week on advertising product 1
A2= Dollars spend each week on advertising product 2
Well use the Linear Programming model to solve the given problem.
Objective: Maximize the objective function
Maximize Z: 15 P1 + 8 P2 6 OT 1.5 RM A1 A2
Subject to:
a) Total expenditure on Advertisement should not exceed $100
A1 + A2 <= 100
b) Total Machine hours cant exceed 320 per week
1.5 P1 + 0.8 P2 <= 320
c) Total Raw material per week cant exceed 400 units
RM <= 400
d) Raw Material Equation
2 P1 + P2 RM <= 0
e) Labor hour constraint
0.75 P1 + 0.5 P2 OT <= 160
f) Advertisement spend on product 1
P1 10 A1 <= 50
g) Advertising spend on product 2
P2 - 15 A2 <= 60
Step 1: Open Tora and Feed the objective function and constraints
Step 2: Run to get the solutions for required Variables and objective function
Subject to:
1) .04R1 + .17R2 + .06R3 + .12R4 500 hrs.
2) .04x1 + .17x2 + .06x3 + .12x4 100 hrs.
3) .05R1 + .14R2 + .14R4 400 hrs.
4) .05x1 + .14x2 + .14x4 100 hrs.
5) 1.2R1 + 1.6R2 + 2.1R3 + 2.4R4 + 1.2x1 + 1.6x2 + 2.1x3 + 2.4x4 10,000 ft2
6) .06A1 + .13A2 + .05A3 + .10A4 600 hrs.
7) .06y1 + .13y2 + .05y3 + .10y4 100 hrs.
8) .05A1 + .21A2 + .02A3 + .10A4 550 hrs.
9) .05y1 + .21y2 + .02y3 + .10y4 100 hrs.
10) .03A1 + .15A2 + .04A3 + .15A4 500 hrs.
11) .03y1 + .15y2 + .04y3 + .15y4 100 hrs.
12) R1 + S1 + x1 = A1 + y1
13) R2 + S2 + x2 = A2+ y2
14) R3 + S3 + x3 = A3 + y3
15) R4 + S4 + x4 = A4 + y4
16) Y1 + A1 = 1,800
17) Y2 + A2 = 1,400
18) Y3 + A3 = 1,600
19) Y4 + A4 = 1,800
20) Ri, Si, xi, Ai, yi 0
The objective function and constraints are fed into Tora
The minimum value of objective function comes out to be 85472.6, with existence of alternate solution.
