The Unbuilt School

One should not run away from ones deficiencies but confront them. I see
tremendous scope of improvement which can make this school one of the
best in its league. We as students and teachers of this Vidyalaya are the
ones who will reap the rewards only if we stop where we are and think for a
moment. Where are we heading towards? Where do we want to go? I will
try to put my views forth in the following lines. What follows is my vision
for the Vidyalaya.
First of all, as a student, I am understood. Understood by my teachers,
my parents, my friends and the community at large. The teacher teaches
the class but I am me. My teacher knows me as a person, a child who has
the potential to contribute to the society in his own unique manner. So,
then I am taught in my own unique way. My teacher not only teaches me to
become a better student but also inspires me to become a better human. A
single mark less in math and science does not hinder me from going on that
excursion with the class. Every student is special and so am I.
I look forward to that alarm bell at 5:30. I feel happy seeing my half-full
bag awaiting to be put on. I do not learn, I perceive, I understand. A new
part of the universe opens up every day. Fresh light enters my heart every
day. My teachers truly enlighten me! So, if I am caught in the dark, no fear.
I love my teachers - they happily clear my doubts. And then, when the final
exams roll by, I roll through it. I am not disciplined by my teachers, they
are the ones who taught me how to discipline myself.
School is cool. I get to do cool things. The notes of my piano and the
goals that Ive scored, weigh in on the final round - perhaps more than the
marks in my sheets. I am in an India where the sole owners of gold are not
housewives but athletes too. The world is witness to our anthem and knows
our place in the podium. I am free to explore the world - both within my
books and beyond. It doesnt feel like a courtroom - a judge with a hammer
looking piercingly at my moves.
Most importantly, the Vidyalaya means something to me and I mean something to it. I feel that I am a participant. Participatory democracy is no
longer limited to the PMs schemes. I feel like the craftsman among craftsmen rather than the passive onlooker. My views are heard and taken into
account. I contribute in that awfully little yet important way.Its not merely
any school, its our school.

My school is a place, as Rabindranath Tagore puts it:

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high Where
words come out from the depth of truth Where tireless striving
stretches its arms towards perfection Where the mind is led forward by thee Into ever-widening thought and action
I cant wait to get to this Vidyalaya. I have started walking, can you get
me there in time?
