Projects
Education support project "Innovative use of ICT in education"
September 2005 to Present

Tamimi
the project aim was to meet Objective FiveTest innovative approaches for using ICTs to enhance teaching
and learning
The team carried out several interrelated pilot projects and enhancement activities to help the Ministry test
alternative approaches to integrating the use of computer technologies into education.
. An important element of each pilot project is to develop a strong sense of local ownership by school
educators, teachers and principals, students and members of the local community. . An important part of this
process was establishing a Technology Committee at each school and then working with this committee to
develop a locally appropriate technology plan linking the ERfKE vision with local realities. Local ownership
for the pilots enabled the school and community to take responsibility for ensuring that these expensive
resources are enhancing education.
The ERfKE Support Project, in collaboration with the MoE and others, was designing and implementing the
following, three initial pilot projects:
Computers-on-Wheels (COW) Pilot;
Student Support Technician (SST) Pilot; and
The Discovery School (DS) Pilot.
Computer on Wheels (COW) Pilot Activity:
Talks had been initiated with Earth walk, a company located in Manassas, VA. They have developed some
very good technologies to make mobile computer carts and
effective and affordable technology for schools in the US and around the world. They also had found
solutions too many of the electrical problems that we may face in Jordan.
Several workshops followed by class visits, coaching, reflection have been conducted at the three pilot COW
schools; Bushra in Irbid,
Balqa school in Salt and Al Hassan school in Karak to integrate technology with modern pedagogy to create a
student centered active learning environment.
I led the team who successfully implemented the project in Bushra School in Irbid

This program is the first of its kind in Jordan and the Arab Region. It is a one-year-graduate program that can
be followed after the bachelor degree. The program is certified by Yarmouk University and is accredited by
the Jordanian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It aims at enabling teachers to use
modern pedagogies and integrate them with the information and communication technology tools in the
classroom.
The program is distinguished in its content and delivery approach. Its content is locally developed in the
Arabic language by expert practitioners in the field who capitalized on the latest internationally proven
theories and experiences to serve practices in the field. Its workshops are highly interactive and depend on
application and learning by doing. The program provides training workshops and on the job observation and
support in the local schools of the participating teachers from all over the country. It has a high reputation
among educators in the field which shows in the record number of around 6000 teachers who joined it over
the last seven years. Teachers from more than 2500 schools all over the kingdom joined it. The program
earned Prince Hassan Award for Excellence in 2006 and several teachers enrolled in it win Queen Rania
Distinguished Teachers Award annually.
