ERP 5110 - ERP Systems Design and Implementation

Research Report 50 Points

Due: 11/10/2014, before class
Point value for this report varies for each student. On campus students are required to write a one
page report (excluding title and references) for 50 points. Distance students are required to write
additional pages to make up for the points missed from the ERP Simulation game and the plant tour
(if applicable). Students are NOT allowed to choose the same topic for this report as the one you use
for the group project.
Background
ERP vendors invest tremendous amounts of money on research and development every year. A
number of new products are produced each year out of these efforts. These innovations could be
derived from research they have done on business process innovation or the integration of a new
technology into their product suite. The presentations also cover new companies SAP might have
acquired. SAP provides a number of continuous learning opportunities for professionals to keep up
with the changes (events in SAP terminology). The two primary channels used by SAP are SAP
TechEd/D-Code and SAPPHIRE.
The predominant innovations of recent presentations are solutions related to mobile platforms, cloud
computing, and BI/analytics.
Content Requirements
For this research report, select a particular emerging technology being presented by SAP through one
of its learning channels/events. Write a report to include the following (but not limited to) for your
chosen technology/topic area:
1. Introduce the technology/innovation
2. Describe how the technology has evolved to its current state (history)
3. Describe the latest trends of the innovation/technology in this area and for the SAP product
4. Discuss the impacts and the benefits the selected technology/ innovation will have on the ERP
industry

You can register to watch replays of any of the events described above. You will not be able
to do this on the day before the report is due.
You should also be able to find information from other SAP sources such as pdf documents
and online descriptions.
Report Requirements
Title page: title and/or topic area, track and subtract covered, student name, student number. Should be a
separate page.
Report: font size 11 and Times New Roman. Set line spacing to single line spacing between lines and 1.5 line
spacing between paragraphs.
Length (excluding title and references): one page for on campus students. Distance students are required to
write additional pages to make up for the points missed from the ERP Simulation game and the plant tour (this
varies for each student). For distance students, each additional page is worth 40 points.
Reference Page(s): A minimum of 15 references must be used and cited in the report. 3 of them must be from
a peer reviewed journal (sources below). SAP references such as videos or other recorded content must also
be cited (include the full name of the content and author/speaker), they are copyrighted material of SAP.
Citations should be used consistently in the paper and follow the guidelines described in the Citations
Instructions document found in blackboard (group project folder). This document is meant as a guideline and
students are expected to follow APA style format for this assignment.

Report submission The individual reports are to be submitted to blackboard on Monday, November 10th before the start of class.
No late assignments will be accepted. Save the report as a document file, name the file:
XXXXX_Research_ERP5110_ZZZZZZZZ (XXXXX is your Last Name and ZZZZZZZ is the research topic
or title).
The grade will be based on the content covered (80%) and the clarity of the written document (grammar and
spelling).
This assignment is meant to be a chance for students to convey a considerable amount of knowledge in a small
amount of space (one page) through the integration of multiple sources of information. Please be sure to follow
the ethical guidelines associated with research standards on campus.
