I am James Weston, and this is my first year campaigning for the House of Representatives in the
5th district of California. I am currently serving my 13th year as the mayor of Porterville. During
my time in office, I have focused on improving the quality of the public education system
reducing the crime rate. After only five years, the number of high school students graduating had
increased by 26%, and now 95% of all high school seniors in Portville are graduating with a
diploma. The crime rate has significantly decreased. Within the past 10 years, the crimes, which
range from simple misdemeanors to felonies, have reduced to 4.35% from 17.6%. As your
representative, I will focus on increasing the education budget, supporting civil rights for women
and the LGBT community, and opposing stricter regulations on gun control. I, James Weston,
am from the people and for the people.

Candidate Back Story
Rags to riches
Middle aged man of African American descent who grew up poor in Porterville
Valedictorian of his class
Full ride scholarship to UC Berkeley
Double majored in political science and economics
Interned at a Democratic senators office
Studied at Yale Law for grad school
Returned to Porterville and was elected as mayor
Running for HoR of the Los Angeles district of California
The incumbent is an old white Republican man who is on the verge of death and opposes
everything that my candidate stands for
Campaign Strategy
Participate in as many debates as possible so he can get visuals on news stations. Visit as many
cities as possible in my district and recite speeches. Emphasize the fact that my candidate grew
up in the same or possibly worse conditions than the people who hes speaking to, so hes trying
to persuade them not only in a political sense but also in an emotional sense. Walk to doors in
neighborhoods and ask them for donations and to vote for him.
Primary Election
Do what George W. Bush did to McCain and fabricate a lie that will screw over the other
nominee. Remain fairly conservative and avoid answering any questions regarding specific
policies.

General Election
Get popular celebrities and athletes to publicly state their support for my campaign. Be more
liberal with answers to questions regarding policies. Focus on debates and try to micro-target as
many groups as possible.
Sources of Funding
Hard money donors by calling people
Ask for volunteers to help with campaign so they dont have to be paid
NARAL Pro-Choice America
Human Rights Campaign (HRC): LGBT civil rights advocacy group
Democrats for Education Reform (DFER)
Gun Owners of America (GOA)
ActBlue: Conduit for online contributions to Democratic candidates
The Party will coordinate a GOTV plan because they will be able to raise much more soft money
and utilize it in ways they see fit.
There are many differences between running for Congress and the presidency. The presidential
race is much more competitive, expensive, and time-consuming in the long run. Congressional
elections are not cared for as much as presidential elections are. The number of votes during an
off-year election is significantly smaller than a year with coinciding elections. Also,
congressional candidates can ride the presidential campaign which means that they will be
successful due to the new Presidents success.
