Translator Checklist, All Correct Language Solutions, www.allcorrect.

This checklist is part of our work instructions. Please refer to it after receiving, as well as before sending back, your task.
I have double-checked the source-text word count provided by the project manager.
I have contacted the project manager to agree on the time zone to be used.
I have carefully read the translation requirements, instructions and glossary of terms provided.
I have acknowledged by email my acceptance of the task.
I have provided the project manager with my Skype ID and can be contacted online.
I have set my word processor to save automatically every 3 minutes, and I save manually every few minutes.
I have read through the source text.
I have compiled a separate glossary for all words which (a) I do not know, (b) have vague or several meanings (e.g. control, ), (c)
can be translated using synonymous terms (e.g. / for cable gland), (d) occur in the text more
than twice, (e) are nonconventional abbreviations, (f) are nonconventional proper names, and (g) appear in the table of contents,
headings and the index.
I have saved the glossary in a Microsoft Excel/OpenOffice Calc file as follows:

I did a search for all unfamiliar terms (if the text contained any) on wiki-sites, Google Images and similar sources.
I have contacted the terminologist (editor) for clarification of vague text fragments or terms (if the text contained any)
I have sent the glossary which I had compiled to the project manager before proceeding with the task or along with the translated text.
I understand the purpose of all tags, variables and special characters contained in the text or I have contacted the project manager for
clarification (if the text contained any).
For each word or sentence of the original, I have given only one translation (without options in parentheses).
I have been consistent in the use of the applicable variety of the target language throughout (e.g. British English).
I have checked the translations of all terms against the glossary provided.
I have used only one term for each word throughout.
I have used only conventional abbreviations approved in the glossary.
I have not used any taboo words or professional jargon or did it following the project managers instructions and advised him or her
accordingly in a file with noted to the translation.
I have retained the expressiveness of the source text and found proper equivalents for all idiomatic expressions and stylistic features (if
the project managers instructions didnt require other actions)
I have adapted culture/field-specific concepts and terminology of the source text (it the text contained any) taking account of the target
readers age and background.
I have translated all the text in figures following the managers instructions, or if there werent any, I have provided a text-only translation
(without reproducing the original layout).
I have transliterated the text (if the text contained any) according to managers instructions, if there werent any I have used GOST 7.79
(system B) (for Cyrillic alphabet) or the latest version of applicable ISO Romanization system (for alphabets other than Cyrillic).
I have used units of measure appropriate for the target language (or stipulated in the requirements).
I have run the spell and grammar checker and consulted reference materials in borderline cases.
I have checked my translation for any omissions and inadvertent insertions.
I have checked that I have not deviated from any requirements or instructions provided.
I have read over my translation after a good break.
I have retained the formatting of the source text (if the managers instructions didnt contain any other requirements).
I have retained all tags and variables of the source text (it the text contained any).
I have retained the name and format of the source file or changed it following the managers instructions.
I have submitted the task ahead of the deadline or within it.
I have completed the task myself.
I have checked that the project manager has received the completed task.
I agree to remain available (via Skype or by phone) for at least 1 hour following the submission of my task.
I agree to keep confidential the source and target texts and the project name, as well as the names of the customer and the end user.
Additional information:
I have found inconsistencies in the source text and informed the project manager accordingly in a Notes file.
I have found a factual error in the source text but retained it in the translation and informed the project manager accordingly in a Notes
file.
I have found an error in the glossary and included it in a Notes file, but retained the glossary term in the target text.
Where the meaning was not clear from the context, I have translated text fragments close to the source text and informed the project
manager accordingly in a Notes file.
I have listed all alternative translation options in a Notes file.
