Modified power generator using Solar, Hydro and

Wind energy with Automatic transfer switch (ATS)

INTRODUCTION

Nowadays, the availability for the commercial power is not sufficient for its
demand. Thats why we are experiencing power failures. There are many causes of power
failures in an electricity network. Examples of these causes include faults at power
stations, damage to electric transmission lines, substations or other parts of
the distribution system, a short circuit, or the overloading of electricity mains.
Power failures are particularly critical at sites where the environment and public
safety are at risk. Institutions such as hospitals, sewage treatment plants, mines, and the
like will usually have backup power sources such as standby generators, which will
automatically start up when electrical power is lost. Other critical systems, such
as telecommunication, are also required to have emergency power. The battery room of a
telephone exchange usually has arrays of leadacid batteries for backup and also a socket
for connecting a generator during extended periods of outage.
From 1900 to 2005, the world population has increased four times itself:
According to Worldometers.com there are now 6.445 billion people on the planet. By
2012, there will be 7 billion; by 2025, 7.9 billion. This figure will grow to 8.27 billion by
2030. As these numbers demonstrate, population growth rate has peakedthe worlds
population may have grown 12.6% from 1990 to 2000, but this rate will only be 2.6% in
the coming decades.( http://www.worldometers.info/world-population/)
Energy use does supplement population growth to a certain extent: more people
means more energy. From 2005 to 2030, the human population will grow by 1.28 times.
In contrast, energy demands over the same time period are projected to grow at a much
faster accelerated pace of 1.9 times. Part of the increase in demand will be due to
increases in the human population: energy fuels modern society, grows economies,
spawns new economies, and gives individuals upward mobility.

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The approach for renewable energy sources in the society has increased as the
population becomes substantial. The institution kept on formulizing such solutions to
relief the increasing problem in the energy source.
Solar power is energy from the sun and without its presence all life on earth
would end. Solar energy has been looked upon as a serious source of energy for many
years because of the vast amounts of energy that are made freely available, if harnessed
by modern technology.
Wind energy is generated by converting wind currents into other forms of energy
using wind turbines. Winds are generated by complex mechanisms involving the rotation
of the Earth, the heat capacity of the sun, the cooling effect of the oceans and polar ice
caps, temperature gradients between land and sea, and the physical effects of mountains
and other obstacles.
Hydropower is the renewable energy contained in flowing water. Electricity
generated using hydropower is known as hydroelectricity and is generally considered to
be reliable.
Renewable energy which are wind, solar, and hydroelectric, is providing
consequential benefits for our climate, our health, and our economy.

1.2 GENERAL PROBLEM

Renewable energy generators are widely spread in the country. The Government
keeps on formulating solutions on how to maintain the sufficient power supply in the
country.
1.3 SPECIFIC PROBLEM

High cost of the commercial electric energy.

Power surge on the appliances caused by rotating brownouts.

Commercial power plants are very harmful to the environment and to

the human health.

1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Proposed renewable power generator projects are always essential on the expected
population growth. Planners and Designers formulate such solutions to modify the
existing machines to become able to accommodate the increasing demand when comes to
electrical power supply.

The project will not only access people to affordable electrical power but also
contributes to protect the environment as it generates power through the solar, wind, and
hydroelectricity. It also introduces an option for people living and working in the city,
and especially in the remote areas who happen to be the main beneficiaries of this project.

1.5 Objectives of the Study

To provide additional electrical power supplies.

To provide people a cleaner energy that helps to preserve the

environment.

To generate electrical power through wind, solar, and hydroelectricity

and use in human benefits.

1.6 Scopes and Limitations of the Study

Wind generators are eco friendly machine that generates electricity as the wind
blows through its wind turbines. It is very economic to have wind generators, firstly
because the availability of the wind is infinite.
The limitation of wind power is that no electricity is produced when the wind is
not blowing. Thus, it cannot be used as a dependable source of base load power. Wind
Turbines Killing Migrating Birds.
Solar energy is a resource that is not only sustainable for energy consumption, it
is indefinitely renewable but solar energy is only available when the sun is shining and
this is partially true, some solar energy passes through the clouds.
Hydroelectricity does not use water, all of the water is returned to its source of
origin. Hydroelectric power can be created 24/7 indefinitely assuming that the body of
water it is utilizing never runs dry. It is also another absolutely clean source of energy.
But like all power plants, hydroelectric plants are very expensive to build, and must be
built to a very high standard.

The high cost means that plants must operate for a long time to become profitable.
The creation of dams can also create flooding of land, which means natural environment
and the natural habitat of animals, and even people, may be destroyed.
