Overview/Course Aims/Objectives of the course: In today's competitive world

substantial market benefits and cost savings can be achieved by effective planning and
management of the resources. This course seeks to provide the key concepts and models in
the decision making, control and management of various resources. This course is to
understand analytical and modeling skills which enable student managers to address the
operational issues of the industry using the existing/constructing operations research
models.
Though the primary objective of this course is to introduce select models of Operations
Research with its applications, the specific objectives are as follows
To introduce concepts of modeling
To formulate real world problems as O.R. problems
To obtain the optimal solutions of the formulated O.R. problems
To make students familiar with O.R. softwares like QM for windows/excel solver
To develop the art of carrying out sensitivity analysis
Student Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the course, the students would be able to:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

* Each group is expected to take up a real world problem related to Management Science
Models. You are expected to solve the problem based on tools and techniques discussed in
the class and submit your report.
**Each group will be assigned a topic related to Management Science Models; they are
expected to give presentation on the topic with secondary research and present at least
one practical application found in their research.
Any other Remarks:

All the students are requested to carry their own Book and Calculator in each and
every session.
Since much of the course material requires class discussion, it is important that you
are prepared for the class, present and defend your ideas. Preparation for class
includes having read the assigned material.
There will be 11 Groups of six members each, with an exception of one or two
groups depending upon the class size.
Students are suggested to meet the course instructor for any conceptual or course
related query/confusion after taking a prior appointment.
