is said of J.S. Bach that his representation of the Christian essence and

message in his religious music is considered so powerful and beautiful, that in

Germany they frequently refer to him as the fifth evangelist.
Bach tells us; I play the notes as they were written, but it is God who makes the
music and also; Where there is devotional music, God is always near, with his
presence, full of grace.
On this special occasion, we are bringing to the Miami public part of the
musical legacy that G.I. Gurdjieff and Thomas de Hartmann created in the 1920s.
This legacy, as well as the Movements, also known as Sacred Dances, is a
fundamental part of Gurdjieffs spiritual teachings.
The fundamental goal of this one and only unforgettable event is fill the recital
hall to share with the public an extraordinary positive influence, so rare in recent
times. The objective of G.I. Gurdjieff was (and still is through his disciples and
followers) to spread these type of influences in many forms. His music penetrates
our soul in such a way, that it places the internal and the external in a different

FUNDACIN GURDJIEFF
The Gurdjieff Foundation is a cultural and educational organization which is
open to anyone interested in joining it. It aims to help people search for their highest
possible harmonious development in all stages of their lives. To achieve this end,
the Gurdjieff Foundation holds various activities aimed at balancing the functions
of emotions, mind, and body as well as creating positive relations with ones fellow
human beings. These activities are based on the teachings of the Armenian master,
George I. Gurdjieff (1866 - 1949), who, in his turn, drew on many ancient schools

MODELO EDUCATIVO
ETIEVAN
The Modelo Educativo Etievan (FUMENE) or Etievan Educational Model
Foundation is a non-profit organization created with the mission of safekeeping the
educational model and legacy developed by Ms. Nathalie de Salzman de Etievan.
It supports diverse schools founded in 1974 in various places in Latin Amrica
(Caracas/Venezuela, Cali/Colombia, Santiago de Chile/Chile y Quito/Ecuador,
Lima/Per) together with other associated institutions, all of which are non-profit.

of knowledge.
The Etievan Educational Model aims at the preparation of human beings so
that they have the tools to face any events or circumstances life may bring them
in a positive manner. To this purpose the model upholds some basic principles: To
educate the feeling realm through embracing effort, challenges and love of work; to
develop ones attention, will, trust in oneself, and a sense of responsibility; to learn
through non-competitive education, high standards and freedom.
The Etievan Educational Model begins with the premise that education is a
continuous process aiming at integration and balance in the works of the mind, the
feeling realm and the body
FUMENE offers its educators real opportunities for training in these principles
and supports them so that they may develop them personally and through their work
in the education of children and young people.

About
YLEANA BAUTISTA
Yleana began her musical studies in her native Cuba and later continued her
Masters in Interpretation at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Kiev, Ukraine.
She obtained first prize in the National Piano Competition for Piano and
Chamber Music of the UNEAC (Unin Nacional de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba ).
Performed with the Symphonic Orchestra of Cuba and Mxico.
She has recorded three CDs with Cuban and Latin American music as well as
music by Gurdjieff-de Hartmann.
Mrs Bautista resides in Mexico since 1992 where she obtained her Mexican
nationality and has worked as Titular de la Academia de Piano de la Escuela
Superior de Msica del INBA, activity which she combines with her piano career.
It was an American Jazz pianist who first introduced her to the music of
Gurdjieff and De Hartmann. As she states, I felt called by something, because I
listened to it over and over; and now, to share this sound, the vibration in these
melodies with other people fulfills an expectation or mission in my life.
The pianist excels in her classical work and has performed with Brindis de
Salas the Chamber Orchestra of La Habana, the National Symphonic Orchestra
of Cuba, and in the San Juan Conservatory. She is a piano teacher at the National
Institute of Arts of Mexico. Mrs. Bautista has performed all over Europe and Latin
America and will be at Mozart in Habana.
Ms. Bautista is also very well known for her interest in the music of Latin
American composers. She produced two well regarded CDs: Cuban Music and
Impressions.
The Music of Gurdjieff-de Hartmann, she says, has changed her way of
relating to classical music. Gurdjieff was inspired by folklore music and sacred
melodies of Central Asia, adding his own singular quality. Ms. Bautista shares with
us, I began to understand classical music more deeply after having had contact
with the music of Gurdjieff - de Hartmann.

About
GURDJIEFF / DE HARTMANN
During the year 1924, through a collaboration with De Hartmann, G.I.Gurdjieff
begins to compose music for the piano, in addition to his work on the Movements.
He would dictate the melody, whistling or playing it with one finger on the
keyboard, while De Hartmann harmonized, formalized and transcribed the music,
always under Gurdjieffs close supervision. This process frequently took place in the
classroom, in the presence of Gurdjieffs disciples. Thus, more than three hundred

G.I. Gurdjieff

compositions were worked on in the years between 1924 and 1927, of which one
hundred and sixty would be completed. After these three years, Gurdjieff never
composed again.
De Hartmanns contribution to the endeavor was considerable. His expertise
as composer and his complete devotion to Gurdjieff, were of such importance that
he rightly deserves to be acknowledged as co-composer of the works. Although
the musical inspiration was solely that of Gurdjieff, the works would have never
come to existence in their present form without the intuitive and perceptive work
of de Hartmann. Of particular note was de Hartmanns amazing ability to waive
any personal stylistic preferences and musical sensibilities so that they would not
interfere in any way with the melodic impulse, so different, of Gurdjieff.
Simultaneously, Gurdjieff continued creating the corpus of movements, sacred
dances or gymnastics, and attention exercises, that are still practiced today and that
embody a vital aspect of his teachings. It was also during this period when, with
equally boundless energy, Gurdjieff began to prepare his primary written work,
Beelzebubs Tales to his Grandson. In 1933 Gurdjieff left the Prieure and moved
to Paris, where he would spend the rest of his life and worked with pupils from
distant places in the world. He made numerous trips to the United States, holding
public demonstrations of the Movements and overseeing the formation of new study
groups.

ART MUSIC LAS MUSAS.

The word Muse originates from the Sanskrit root m designating the maternal
essence which therefore means To Make, To Conceive, To Transform (female
principle ); and from the root us, in the same language, designating the paternal
essence which means The Absolute, The Lord, The Father, The One, The Nameless
(masculine principle). It is complemented by the Greek suffix ike which means
that which relates to . Music, then, would be the union of opposites, the vibration
of that harmonious and proportionate sound, origin of the creation of the cosmos.
Art, in general, is not entertainment but a means of knowing.
A repository where true knowledge about man and his relationship with the
cosmos may be encoded. Certain works of art, therefore, are like books. They hold
knowledge about humanity especially encrypted, so that it may be passed from
generation to generation without distortion.
This knowledge is not in the form of ideas or words but rather in the form of
images or sounds; or any other forms which may hold its meaning throughout the
centuries, free of misrepresentation or distortion.
Laurence Rosenthal

Gurdjieffs music is a very special music, in the sense that it produces a

certain quality in the listener, which incites him/her to question, to stay open. It
is interesting to encounter that in these apparently simple folkloric dance pieces;
safe, stalking below the surface, is that same certain quality, which really asks the
question, Who am I?
