From the Rush Limbaugh Morning Update: "Down and Out"
An article in Slate details the condition the Democrats are in after the midterm elections. The headline
Down and Out says it all.
The article warns that for Obamas last two years, Democrats will have to deal with conservative
legislation, and a vacancy crisis when Republicans refuse to confirm Obamas nominations. But as bad
as that is, hapless Democrats will face much worse at the state level.
Democrats have single-party control in just 7 states. Republicans control the legislative majority in 30
states, and Republicans now have single-party control in most of the south. That is a slow-moving
disaster for congressional Democrats, according to Amy Walter of the Cook Political Report. Unless
Dems start winning elections, theyll be shut out of the next round of redistricting. Which could end up
costing them Congress for a decade or more?
The Democrats are still confined to large urban areas in most states. They need a massive resettlement
program to become competitive in state politics.
More bad news is the Democrat bench. Slate says: Democrats might have strong national prospects in
the form of Hillary Clinton, but they have little to look to in the states. What they dont say, is what I
said on Fox News Sunday. Hillary cant sell books, cant fill up seats in an auditorium, the hype is over.
Some Democrats apparently are starting to get it. They lost big. If Republican leaders get it, they might
start acting like winners. It's a long shot, could happen.
