Nebraska Joined by Oklahoma to Challenge Colorados
Legalization of Marijuana in U.S. Supreme Court LINCOLN - Today, Attorney General Jon Bruning was joined by Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt in filing a lawsuit in the U.S. Supreme Court seeking a declaration that Colorados legalization of marijuana violates the United States Constitution. Federal law undisputedly prohibits the production and sale of marijuana, said Attorney General Bruning. Colorado has undermined the United States Constitution, and I hope the U.S. Supreme Court will uphold our constitutional principles. Congress has continually enforced the principle that drugs are a threat to the health and safety of our children and the trafficking of drugs is a national, interstate problem. Im particularly grateful to Attorney General Pruitt for his leadership and courage in this matter, said Attorney General Bruning. Colorado has created a system that legalizes, promotes and facilitates distribution of marijuana. The illegal products of this system are heavily trafficked into neighboring states, causing an unnecessary burden on the state of Nebraska.
