CUOMO TOPS de BLASIO 4-1 AS TOP DEM IN NEW YORK,

QUINNIPIAC UNIVERSITY POLL FINDS;
CLINTON OR CUOMO STOMP GOP IN STATE IN 2016 RACE
Gov. Andrew Cuomo tops Mayor Bill de Blasio 74 16 percent among New York State voters,
including 67 25 percent among New York City voters, as the more influential Democrat,
according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.
Gov. Cuomo leads Mayor de Blasio 75 19 percent among Democrats, 84 7 percent
among Republicans and 72 15 percent among independent voters, the independent Quinnipiac
(KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University Poll finds.
The governor tops the mayor 77 9 percent among upstate voters and 81 11 percent
among suburban voters. There is almost no gender gap. De Blasio finds his best support among
voters 18 to 29 years old, who still back Cuomo 56 32 percent.
New York State voters give Cuomo a 52 33 percent favorability rating. De Blasio gets
a 33 36 percent rating, with 29 percent who dont know enough about him to form an opinion.
Cuomo most closely represents their political view, 31 percent of New York State voters
say, while 20 percent line up with de Blasio and 44 percent say neither. The governor is ahead
39 30 percent among Democrats, while de Blasio is closer to the views of 29 percent of voters
under 30 years old, compared to Cuomos 23 percent. Cuomo lines up with 32 percent of New
York City voters, with de Blasio at 31 percent.
Whos the more influential Democrat? Overwhelmingly, New Yorkers pick Gov.
Andrew Cuomo over New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. Even Big Apple voters say the
governor has a bigger bite, said Maurice Carroll, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University
Poll. Mayor de Blasio is trying hard to be known as a national even international
spokesman for political liberalism but, so far at least, its not working with the neighbors. New
Yorkers pay more attention to Gov. Cuomo.

Quinnipiac University Poll/December 23, 2014 page 2

Because Republicans give a big thumbs down to either Democrat, neither Cuomo nor de
Blasio win the hearts and minds of most New Yorkers, Carroll added.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Gov. Cuomo both top leading Republican
contenders in New York State in an early look at the 2016 presidential campaign. Clinton is up:

60 29 percent over former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush;

61 26 percent over U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky;
57 31 percent over New Jersey Gov. Christopher Christie.
Clintons leads range from 14 to 24 percentage points among men and 36 to 44

percentage points among women.

Cuomo tops leading Republicans by smaller margins:

51 31 percent over Jeb Bush;

56 28 percent over Paul;
49 35 percent over Christie.
The lady from Chappaqua, Hillary Clinton, should move back to the White House, New

Yorkers say. She beats all the Republican wannabes, Carroll said.
Hey, were a Democratic state. Our Democratic governor leads the GOP pack, too.
Approval of President Obama, Other Officials
New York State voters approve 51 45 percent of the job President Barack Obama is
doing. Men are divided 48 48 percent, while women approve 54 41 percent.
Voters approve 62 24 percent of the job U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer is doing and give
U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand a 58 18 percent approval rating.
Voters approve 47 20 percent of the job State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is
doing and give State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli a 39 16 percent score.
From December 17 21, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,293 New York State voters
with a margin of error of +/- 2.7 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and cell
phones.
The Quinnipiac University Poll, directed by Douglas Schwartz, Ph.D., conducts public
opinion surveys in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Iowa, Ohio,
Virginia, Colorado and the nation as a public service and for research.
