France ranked sixth in the world, in terms of medical concentrabon of healthcare providers,
with approximately 335 healthcare professionals for every 100,000 residents

Medical Problems

English speaking doctors are close to campus. A list will be posted in the main hall
of the GT-L Building, and the GTL sta will be happy to advise you, to help you and

if need be to assist you with translabon should you have to see a specialist who
may not speak English

For major medical problems: there are several excellent hospitals in Metz which
earned top rankings in France (Hpital Claude Bernard, Hpital Saint Andr,
Hpital, Sainte Blandine, Hpital Militaire Legouest, Hpital Mercy, etc)

Being Sick in France

A trip to the doctors oce will cost around 23 euros. Doctors also make house calls
for about 33 euros (day bme), 43 euros aQer 6pm.

You can be treated by any French hospital in case of emergency

You can buy certain drugs over the counter in a pharmacy but a lot of them require a
doctors prescripbon; don't be surprised if you do not nd US drug brand names!
USEFUL TIPS... Do not panic if a doctor asks you to
undress completely with no nurse around. Unlike in the
U.S., there is no regulabon requiring the presence of a
woman nurse with a male doctor or vice versa.

USEFUL TIPS.. If you have a sore-throat and the
pharmacist prescribes suppositories, don't be surprised:
it is a tradibonal (and eecbve) treatment !

Keep all your medical bills to be reimbursed by CISI once you get back to the US

Seeing a Denbst in France

The cost of roubne dental care in France is very modest. You are free to use any
denbst you like, and you do not need to go to the same denbst for all of your
treatment

Most denbsts in France work within the framework of the French health
insurance system. As the government controls most charges within the system,
you will nd that you should be able to get basic dental care in France at a
reasonable price, and to a high quality

How to get reimbursed by CISI

CISI has direct billing arrangements with many overseas providers and there is a detailed list provided
on the CISI client portal. If a student becomes ill and needs medical treatment, and pays for the
expenses, in order to le for reimbursement they must complete the CISI claim form and then scan/e-
mail the claim form, medical bill and any prescripbon to Claimhelp@culturalinsurance.com.

If the student is unable to e-mail the documentabon, it can instead be faxed to 203-399-5596 or mailed
to the address on the form. If the documentabon is mailed, students should keep a copy, just in case
the originals are lost in the mail.

If a student is hospitalized, a case should be opened with the assistance company, Europassistance USA.
EuropAssist is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling collect to 240-330-1520 or via e-
mail to ops@europassistance-usa.com. They will contact the hospital and provide a payment guarantee
so that the hospital will bill CISI directly and not require the student to pay the hospital bill upon
discharge.
How long will it take to be reimbursed for
medical expenses paid out-of-pocket?
Turnaround for claim payments is
generally 2-3 weeks from receipt date. To
check the status of your claim, contact CISI
at (800) 303-8120 from 9AM to 5PM EST.
