City announces transport plan for ANCs birthday event at


stadium
The City of Cape Town would like to inform residents of the road closures and
transport arrangements that will be in place to accommodate the ANCs
103rd birthday celebration at the Cape Town Stadium on 10 January 2015.
Road restrictions
The roads listed in the tables that follow will be temporarily closed and/or
restricted to vehicular traffic on Saturday, 10 January 2015. This will have an
impact on traffic flow and motorists are advised to plan their trips
accordingly.

Parking restrictions:
No parking will be permitted on the above roads at the indicated times.
Access to and egress from parking garages will be allowed for permit-holders.
Additional parking restrictions will be in place from midnight to 19:00 on:
Strand Street, between Castle/Lower Buitenkant Street and Russel
Street
Keizersgracht, between Tennant Street and Russel Street
Prestwich Street, Alfred Street and Hospital Street
Event shuttles
Stadium shuttle between the MyCiTi Civic Centre and Stadium station:
First bus from the Civic Centre bus station in Hertzog Boulevard leaves
at 06:00
Thereafter, a bus leaves every 15 minutes or when full
This service will continue during the event
The last return bus leaves the Stadium bus station at 18:30
Free of charge on presentation of a valid wristband for the event
Khayelitsha shuttle between Kuyasa Rail Station MyCiTi stop and the Civic
Centre bus station:
Before event first bus from the Kuyasa Rail Station stop leaves at 06:30
and the last bus will leave at 09:30

Impact of road closures on public transport
Public transport services operating in the Green Point and CBD areas may be
subject to localised deviations from 00:00 until 19:00 on 10 January 2015. The
affected scheduled services are listed below:
MyCiTi Waterfront service:
The normal scheduled service will not be free of charge
The service will stop at the Stadium bus station en route to the
Waterfront and then will be rerouted from Helen Suzman Boulevard into
Portswood Road, turning left into Beach Road and right at the traffic
circle into Granger Bay Boulevard.
Granger Bay bus station will be closed for this period while all other
stops and services on the Gardens-Civic-Waterfront route will remain
operational.
Passengers may use the Waterfront (in Breakwater Lane), Stadium bus
station and/or Buitengragt stops as alternatives to the Granger Bay bus
station.
On the return journey from the Waterfront, the bus will turn left into
Beach Road, right into Portswood Road and left at Helen Suzman
Boulevard to continue its normal route to the CBD.
MyCiTi services:
The standard hours of operation and fares will apply for all normal MyCiTi
routes. Passengers will be required to use a myconnect card (loaded with
sufficient value) to travel to the Civic Centre bus station unless in possession
of a valid wristband and travelling on a special event bus from Khayelitsha to
the Civic Centre or from the CTICC to the stadium. myconnect cards can be
purchased at selected MyCiTi stations or participating retailers. The 24/7
Transport Information Centre can be contacted on 0800 65 64 63 for more
information.
Golden Arrow Bus Service travelling through the Green Point area:
All services along Somerset/Main Road, Green Point (between Buitengragt
Street and York Road) will run along Helen Suzman Boulevard between 07:00
10:00 and 15:00 18:00. Passengers using this service may board or
disembark at the stops on either side of the closures at Buitengragt Street or
York Road.
Golden Arrow Bus Service entering the CBD:

The Waterfront service (CBD-bound) will operate via the CTICC, turning right
into Heerengracht, stopping opposite Standard Bank, proceeding around the
circle, back down Heerengracht and on to the Waterfront. The
Waterfront/Sea Point service will continue to operate on its normal routes but
may be subject to delays.
Metrorail services:
Metrorail services to and from Cape Town will run as normal. Additional train
services will be provided on the Central and Northern lines. Attendees must
ensure that they have their wristbands before leaving the Cape Town railway
station in order to gain access to the stadium.
Worcester train:
The normal train from Worcester on Saturday will arrive in Cape Town at 07:30.
The 2523 train normally departing Cape Town at 14:05 to Worcester will be
held back for the end of the event. Commuters who would normally use the
2523 train departing at 14:05 to Worcester from Cape Town must use the 3525
train departing at 14:20 to Wellington, then get off at Paarl and they will be
taken by bus from Paarl to Worcester.

Charter bus services
The event organiser has organised a number of charter buses to bring
attendees to the event:
1. West Coast, Boland, Overberg and Southern Cape Regions:
All buses will park on the Grand Parade (with overflow on Strand
Street between the Castle and the Cape Town Railway Station).
Buses will remain at the at which point they dropped off
passengers until after the event so attendees can find their
correct bus home again.
Attendees can use the fan walk from the Railway Station or use
the Stadium shuttle from Civic Centre station in Hertzog
Boulevard.
The event organiser has arranged for PRASA buses to convey
some disabled and elderly attendees from the Grand Parade.
Other disabled persons can use the special vehicles provided.
2. Cape Town Metropolitan area:
Buses and minibus-taxis will park at either lower Table Bay
Boulevard Foreshore parking area; Culemborg (Transnet
property) off Christiaan Barnard Street; Keizersgracht between
Tennant and Russel Street.

Buses will remain at the point at which they dropped off


passengers until after the event so attendees can find their
correct bus home again.
Attendees can use the fan walk from the Railway Station or use
the Stadium shuttle from Civic Centre station in Hertzog
Boulevard.
The event organiser has arranged for PRASA buses to convey
some disabled and elderly attendees from the Grand Parade.
Other disabled persons can use the special vehicles provided.

Coaches and buses


No private buses and coaches will be permitted to park in the stadium
precinct.
Park-and-Rides
VIPs will be allocated a park-and-ride area and shuttled to and from the
stadium by bus on presentation of their accreditation and wristband. There
are no other park-and-ride facilities.
Parking
On-street parking in the city centre:
On-street parking is available within the city centre, but no additional
security will be provided.
Parking tariffs will apply until 13:00 when on-street parking becomes
free of charge.
Off-street parking in the city centre:
Secure, off-street parking is available for a fee at numerous locations within
the city bowl.
People with disabilities
People with disabilities will be able to use the special shuttle provided by the
event organiser. They should arrange this through their event marshal.
Pedestrian routes
Pedestrian routes between the Stadium and:
City centre (via fan walk)
Part of the road will be open to normal vehicular traffic
Pedestrians are urged to use the sidewalk and dedicated lane to the
underpass at Green Point Circle
V&A Waterfront
This route is via Granger Bay Boulevard
Pedestrians are urged to avoid Portswood Road as the pedestrian
walkways along that route are restricted

Cycling
Attendees wishing to cycle to the stadium are encouraged to do so. Bicycle
racks are located on the eastern (Waterfront) side of the elevated circle at
the stadium. Cyclists must provide their own lock and chain as bicycles are
left at own risk.
Please remember the ridesafe motto and wear a helmet, have adequate
lighting and wear reflective clothing. Please note motorcycle helmets are not
allowed inside the stadium.
Due to the number of people using the fan walk, it is advised that cyclists
coming from the CBD use the route through the V&A Waterfront or the back
roads in De Waterkant to access the stadium.
