Objectives:
- to know the forming of regular plural nouns (-s; -es; -ves; -ies.)
- to know the forming of irregular nouns
- to be able to give examples of regular and irregular nouns
Preliminary conversation
o How many books are in your bag?
STAGES OF THE LESSON
Warm-up: The teacher asks the students if they know what singular or plural means
and asks them to tell some singular nouns.
Presentation: After the warm up, the teacher announces the subject of the lesson and
tells them about singular,plural, regular and irregular nouns.
Grammar:
1. Singular Noun
Singular noun is a noun showing that the mentioned thing is only one. Generally
proceeded by article a or an.
Example:
o A teacher
o An Axe
o A car

o An egg

o A book

o An orange

o An ant
In a sentence:
o We use an axe to cut logs
o I see a car in front of my house
If there is a to be, we use is.
Example:
o There is a car in front of my house.

o An axe is used to cut logs.


o There is a book in my bag.
2. Plural Noun
Plural noun is a noun showing that the mentioned thing is more than one.
Generally the plural noun is formed by simply adding s at the end of the word.
Example:
o Two teachers
o Four cars
o Five books
o Ten eggs
o Seven oranges
In a sentence:
o I want to buy two cars.
o Mrs. Smith sells five guns.
With the plural noun, e use to be are.
Example:
o There are six eggs in the fridge.
o There are five books in my bag.
o Three cars are damaged in the accident.
Ways to make a plural noun
a) The singular noun ends with o and proceeded be consonant, put es.
Example:

b) The singular noun ends with y and proceeded by consonant, change y to i and
add es.
