Thomas Rogers Sinfonia Scholarship

Proposal
Scholarship Information:
The scholarship term is limited to a one-time scholarship. A recipient cannot be awarded
the scholarship more than once. The scholarship is available for only one academic year. This
will only include the fall and spring semester.
The scholarship award is (X) amount for the academic year. (X/2 per semester).
This scholarship is awarded to a recipient that has been selected through an application
process. The final decision that determines whom is selected to receive this award will be
decided by Faculty and Advisors of the School of Creative and Performing Arts (to be
determined). Despite that the Faculty will have ultimate authority of who receives the award, the
Gamma Rho Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia will provide a list of three nominees from within
the chapter for consideration.
The purpose of this award is to recognize and support a fellow musical student whom
displays strong leadership skills, as well as Sinfonian qualities that create a well-rounded
musician. The recipient must also display ideals similar to Phi Mu Alphas object:
The object of this fraternity shall be for the development of the best and truest
Fraternal Spirit, the mutual welfare and brother of musical students, the advancement of music in
America, and a loyalty to the Alma Mater
The recipient will also submit a typed essay of at least 500 words that expounds on how the
applicant uses music to uplift and affect others.

Requirements/Eligibility:
o The scholarship recipient must be a Major related to the Music/Performing Arts
School. This includes: Music Education, Music Performance, Sacred Music, and
Music Business.
o The recipient must currently (at the time of application) have a cumulative GPA
of at least 3.0 or higher.
o The recipient must have completed enough course hours required to be classified
as a Junior or Senior defined by Northwestern State Universitys standards.

o The applicant must submit a type 500 word essay to be considered for the
scholarship
o The applicant cannot be awarded this scholarship more than once during his
educational career at Northwestern State University.
Application Process:

Students applying for the scholarship must complete a typed 500 word essay for the
relevant topic (subject to change each academic year)
The final decisions is made by the appointed faculty/advisors of CAPA, the chapter has
no authority who ultimately gets picked, but can nominate 3 candidates from within the
Gammo Rho chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
All academic requirements will be checked and approved by Dr. Greg Handel, or other
authorized personnel. This is to ensure that all listed academic requirements are met by
the applicant. This is to protect student academic privacy, in the event that an applicant is
denied due to academic requirements, it is critical that student confidentially is
maintained. (At no time shall another student, or member of Phi Mu Alpha request
any sensitive academic information including GPA, and completed course hours)
Applicants MUST submit the application no later than (proposed date). Any
applications that are submitted beyond this date will not be considered for the
scholarship.
Applicants are not only considered for their academic achievements, but also by their
musicianship, leadership, and professionalism. They may also be considered by Phi Mu
Alpha Sinfonia qualities defined in our Great Object.
