Avenue Q
8 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays; 2 p.m. Sundays. Coronado Playhouse, 1835 Strand Way, Coronado. $20$27. (619) 435-4856 or coronadoplayhouse.com
This puppet-based musical is emphatically not for
kids, but grown-ups who are ready for some risqu
laughs should appreciate all the gleeful naughtiness
of the Tony-winning show. Avenue Q focuses on the
fuzzy denizens of a New York City neighborhood all
of them dealing (in their own quirky ways) with the
typical troubles of urban moderns. The 2003 Broadway
hit (whose actor-puppeteers are fully visible) helped
launch the songwriting career of Robert Lopez, who
went on to Book of Mormon and Frozen fame.

San Diego Operas production

of La Boheme
7 p.m. today; 2 p.m. Sunday. San Diego Civic
Theatre, 1100 Third Ave., downtown.
(619) 533-7000 or sdopera.com
Youve probably heard, or at least heard about,
the hit Broadway show Rent, which was a
watered-down version of Puccinis La Boheme.
Maybe you should consider seeing the real
thing. Puccinis masterpiece is one of the most
produced if not the most produced operas
in the repertoire, Alyson Cambridge is singing
the title role of Mimi in the San Diego Operas
production, and you wont have any problem understanding whats happening onstage. Its that
universal story of young lovers getting together,
breaking up, and getting back together, although
spoiler alert since this is opera, they get
back together just in time for Mimi to die. Fortunately, the San Diego Opera didnt.

crowd favorites like Grave Digger, Metal Mulisha, Mohawk Warrior, El Diablo and many more weave around
the dirt track smashing into obstacles and doing air
wheelies. The show begins at 7 p.m., but fans are invited
