All broke up

Record and near-record highs across northeast Montana

the past three days had small creeks running and the
ice coverage on the Milk River melting and breaking up.

Fortunately there wasnt enough snow to speak of to cause

any flooding. A couple more pleasant days are ahead before
winter returns Friday night and Saturday morning.

Board and stayed involved with chamber events by
volunteering. Deb has been an invaluable volunteer for

A cold front extending from a low pressure system over
Hudson Bay will move through northeast Montana Friday
night and Saturday bringing a return of winter weather to
the area. Light snow will begin in the north Friday night and
spread south through the rest of the area Saturday morning.
Winds will not be too strong, but enough to produce a little
blowing and drifting snow, mainly north of a line from
Dodson to Rock Creek to Bainville. Snow will taper to a
slight chance Saturday night and continue into Sunday with
only minor accumulations.

US Secretary of Education announces new curriculum

Ushering in a new era in American
education, U.S. Secretary of Education
Arne Duncan announced Wednesday that
all U.S. public schools will soon switch to a
rigorous, Tony Danza-based curriculum.
As things stand now, our kids simply
arent learning enough about Tony Danza,
said Duncan, explaining the switch. Under
the new plan, by the time every American
youngster graduates from high school, they
will have a rock-solid foundation in all the
basics of Tony Danza.
Under the new plan, by second grade, all students
will have a basic working knowledge of Whos The Boss.

By sixth grade, all U.S. students will gain full exposure
to the first four seasons of Taxi, in addition to a basic
familiarity with the 27 post-Andy Kaufman episodes.
By their senior year of high school, all students
will have gained a broad, sophisticated understanding
of every aspect of Danzas career, including his work in
the 1981 film Going Ape!, early television commercials
and a starring role on ABCs Hudson Street.

I am confident that Americas children will receive
the finest Tony Danza education anywhere on earth,
Duncan said. And as a result, they will graduate better
prepared to face the Tony Danza-related demands of

the working world than the youth of any

other nation.
According to a 2014 survey, Americas
schools ranked 43rd out of 45 industrialized
nations in quality of Tony Danza education.
Duncan first came up with the plan
after visiting a few rural schools as well as
urban schools.
I talked to some of the students and
was appalled by what I heard, Duncan
said. There were kids who didnt know
the last name of Tonys Whos the Boss
character. Kids who had never seen the old classic Taxi
episodes. There was even one young man who had never
even heard of Shes Out of Control, the 1989 comedy in
which Tony plays the overprotective father of a boycrazy teenage girl. Thats just wrong.

homeowner/renter tax credit

Montanans who turned 62 or older by the

end of last year may qualify for Montanas elderly
homeowner/renter tax credit for 2014. If you can
answer yes to all of the following questions, then
you may be eligible for the credit:
Were you 62 or older as of Dec. 31?
Did you occupy a Montana residence(s) as an
owner or renter for a total of 6 months or more
during 2014?
Did you reside in Montana for nine months or
more during 2014?
Was your total gross household income less
than $45,000 in 2014? Montana Department of
Revenues Form 2EC contains instructions for
determining total gross household income for
the purpose of determining the tax credit.
Montana allows qualifying citizens a credit for
a portion of their property taxes or rent paid based
on their income. The credit can be used against state
income liability or as a direct refund if the person
is not required to file a Montana state income tax
return. Only one claim is allowed per household.
To determine eligibility, complete Form 2EC,
which can be found at your local Department of
Revenue office, library, post office or tax preparers
office. The form is also available on the web
at
