The Charles F. Ward Service to Ardmore Award is presented to the person whose efforts and
good works have impacted the Ardmore community in meaningful and significant ways. The
award is intended to honor someone whose attributes emulate those of Charlie Ward, past
President of Lower Merion Township Board of Commissioners and Founding Chairman of the
Ardmore Business District Authority, the Ardmore Initiative, in whose name this award is made.
The Community Bright Spot Award recognizes an Ardmore business or organization for an
appealing, appropriate and eye catching facade renovation or creative window dressing or for
providing a welcoming gathering place.
The Shining Star Award recognizes a person, business or organization, which has left you with
a positive impression. Does a favorite business keep convenient hours? Remember your name?
Provide great customer service? Is there a business owner who gets it and supports his/her
community? Does the business or organization cooperate with various community events? Do
you find yourself recommending this business time and time again? Is there an organization that
consistently supports or provides services to the Ardmore community?

Award Criteria
Ward Award: First and foremost, Ward Award nominees should emulate Charlie and the
manner in which he did and continues to conduct himself as a person and as former Chair of The
Ardmore Initiative. Words such as selflessness, courage, integrity, leadership and kindness
describe some of the appropriate attributes. This award shall be presented to an individual.
Although it may be made posthumously, a living recipient is preferable. A geographic presence
Ardmore is preferable, but not a prerequisite. However, the recipient must be tied to Ardmore in
some fashion.
Community Bright Spot: Presented to a business or organization located within the Ardmore
Business District.
Shining Star: This award may be presented to a person, business or organization. Just tell us
why your nominee is one of Ardmores Shining Stars!

Process:
The award will be made annually at an Ardmore Initiative event.
The Award Committee is made up of members of the Ardmore Initiative Board of Directors and
staff. The committee may also make nominations for the award.
A panel of current and honorary members of the Board of Directors of The Ardmore Initiative will
serve as Judges.
Nominations must be complete and received by the Ardmore Initiative by midnight
