Puppets and a Proposal!

Coronado Playhouse sold out production of
Avenue Q
to host a surprise Valentine's Day marriage proposal on stage
SATURDAY FEBRUARY 14th
during curtain call of the 8 p.m. performance.
The Tony Award-winning Best Musical Avenue Q is playing to sold out audiences at
Coronado Playhouse through March 7th. Avenue Q is the story of Princeton, a brighteyed college grad who comes to New York City with big dreams and a small bank
account. He stumbles into the only neighborhood in his price range, home to a cast of
humans as well as puppets with personality. Love is a major theme of the show and this
SATURDAY FEBRUARY 14TH life will imitate art with a surprise marriage proposal
during the show's curtain call.
David Miller and his boyfriend Dave Abad are San Diegans who met through an online
dating site over two years ago. Miller, a biotech project manager in Vista and Abad, now
a San Francisco Bay area attorney, are currently in a long distance relationship. This
weekend, Abad is flying home to enjoy his favorite musical at Coronado Playhouse with
his boyfriend. What he doesn't know is that Miller is going to 'pop the question' on stage
with the help of the Avenue Q puppets.
The moment will happen during the show curtain call at approximately 10:10 p.m.
Saturday February 14th. Cameras are invited to capture the moment. We will also have
a photographer shooting hi definition video that will be available for email in time for 11
p.m. deadlines or use on your Sunday morning shows. The marriage proposal video will
also post to our Coronado Playhouse YouTube channel:

Avenue Q has been labeled a show like Sesame Street for adults. While there are
endearing puppets, THIS SHOW IS NOT FOR CHILDREN but for mature audiences
only. There are adult themes, strong language and clever lyrics and music. The urban
fairytale features a Tony Award-winning score with songs like, "If you Were Gay",
"The Internet is for Porn", "There's a Fine, Fine Line", and "My Girlfriend, Who Lives in
Canada". The show comes to life with actors manipulating rod controlled and live hand
puppets.
The cast includes Edgar Diaz-Gutierrez (Princeton), Jarrod Weintraub (Brian), Catie
Marron (Kate Monster), Joel Miller (Nicky), Kyle Best (Rod), Tiffany Loui (Christmas
Eve), Taylor Henderson (Gary Coleman), Daryl Daley (Girl Bear), Patrick Mayuyu (Boy
Bear), Dianne Gray (Mrs. Thistletwat), Kit Fugrad (Trekkie Monster), Ferril Gardner
(Lucy the Slut).
The production team includes: Jennie Gray Connard (director/choreographer), Michael
Van Allen (assistant director), Kirk Valles (musical director), Joe Fitzpatrick, Jr. (puppet
master) and M.G. Perez (producer). Michael Barahura (lighting design), Rick Anthony
(sound design), Barron Henzel (set design) and Tannya Sloter (stage manager).
Avenue Q is presented by special arrangement with Music Theatre International,
New York.
Cast and production members are available for interviews and video opportunities. Still
pictures of the production can also be provided. Please contact M.G. Perez for specific
media interest and needs. Coronado Playhouse is a qualified 501(c) 3 non-profit
organization. Coronado Playhouse is San Diego Countys longest running community
theatre.
