Customs. Board our private coach and we will be on our way to Sorrento. Drive along the
Autostrada del Sol, Sun Route, through the regions of Lazio and Campania.

Breakfast at hotel. This morning, we leave Sorrento to visit Pompeii. Explore the incredibly
well-preserved remains of this ancient Roman town, where all life was suddenly stopped by
an eruption of Vesuvius in the year 79 A.D. The volcano collapsed higher roof-lines and
buried Pompeii under 60 feet of ash and pumice, and it was lost for nearly 1700 years before
its accidental rediscovery in 1748. Since then, its excavation has provided an extraordinarily
detailed insight into the life of a city at the height of the Roman Empire. Today, it is one of
the most popular tourist attractions in Italy. Continue to the nearby Franciscan Church of
the Rosary for Mass, celebrated by Fr. Keith Pellerin. Independent lunch. Continue to the
nearby city of Naples, situated on a beautiful bay on the Mediterranean Coast. Enjoy a
panoramic tour by coach of the city: Mergellina, Castel dellOo, Plebiscito Square, The Royal
Palace, and the Maschio Angioino with its triumphal arch and deep moats. Enjoy and photograph the famous view of the city, the bay and Mt. Vesuvius. Continue to visit the
Cathedral (Duomo di San Gennaro). Saint Januarius, the patron of Naples, is famous for the
miracle of the annual liquefaction of his blood. People assemble to witness in amazement
this event in the cathedral three times a year: On September 19 (St. Januarius Day), December
16, and on the Saturday before the first Sunday of May. Time will be given for prayer and
reflection before we return to Sorrento.
Dinner and overnight at hotel in Sorrento.

Breakfast at hotel. Today the group will be split into mini-buses for our tour of the Amalfi
towns. From Sorrento, we take a spectacular drive as we visit towns of Positano and Amalfi.
Enjoy a remarkable bird's-eye view of Positano, commanding a beautiful view of the Gulf of
Naples. Continue on to Amalfi town and the Cathedral of St. Andrew the Apostle.
Independent lunch in the quaint town of Amalfi. Then we continue to the towns of Ravello,
Minori, Maiori, Vietri Sul Mare and Salerno. Celebrate Mass at the Cathedral of St. Andrew
the Apostle in the town of Amalfi.
Dinner and overnight at hotel in Sorrento.

Breakfast at hotel. This morning, we leave Sorrento for Rome. En route we will visit
Montecasino, the 5th century Abbey and the cradle of the Benedictine Order, where the
motherhouse of the Benedictines was founded by St. Benedict in 529 and where the saint
worked many miracles. Celebrate Mass at the Abbey of Montecasino. Independent lunch.
After lunch, continue to Assisi. After a two and a half-hour ride we will see Assisi on a
mountaintop. Walk along the narrow lanes, see the Shrine to Saint Francis and the overwhelming art dedicated to this young friar, a rich young man who turned to God and established an order that has grown over the centuries. Upon arrival visit the Basilica of Santa
Maria degli Angeli. Crowned by the magnificent dome designed by Alessi, this great Basilica
was built in 1569. Enclosed see the shrine of the "Porziuncola" or the Little Portion Chapel
around which the first Franciscan community was centered, the place where Clare received
the habit from Francis, and the Capella Del Transito, which marks the spot where the Saint
died. See the statue of Saint Francis in the courtyard where thornless roses bloom. Check in
to our hotel in Assisi.
Dinner and overnight at hotel in Assisi.

Day 8
Breakfast at hotel. After breakfast, begin our day with Mass at the
Church of San Marco, where St. Philip Neri received his early
teaching from the friars at San Marco, the famous Dominican
monastery. Then, our local guide will be ready to take us to visit the
Accademia. This Gallery was founded in 1784 by the Grand Duke
Pietro Leopoldo, who decreed that all the schools of paintings
should be joined together in a single academy. One of the most popular museums in Florence, the Gallery houses many sculptures by
Michelangelo. Though the collection has since expanded to include
works ranging from Florentine gothic painting to Russian Icons as
well as Italian Renaissance and Baroque works by Pontormo,
Ghirlandaio and others, it is still primary known for the superb
"David" by Michelangelo. Continue to the beautiful Piazza Del
Duomo and the delicately patterned green, white and pink
Cathedral of Santa Maria Del Fiore, crowned with its magnificent
Dome by Brunelleschi; Giotto's Bell Tower; and the Romanesque
Baptistery of St. John, with the exquisite bronze doors by Ghiberti,
which Michelangelo called the "Gates of Paradise". See the 13th century Franciscan Church of the Holy Cross, which holds the Tombs
of the greatest of Florentine men. Independent lunch.
After lunch, we continue to Rome, the "Eternal City".
Dinner and overnight at hotel in Rome.

After early breakfast, celebrate Mass at the Tomb of St. Peter (to be confirmed) or
one of the Vatican grotto altars. Our morning of sightseeing begins with a visit to
one of the great art collections in the world, the Vatican Museums. Walk in the
footsteps of the Princes of the Church through the richly decorated galleries.
Continue on to the Sistine Chapel, the private chapel of the Popes, where
Michelangelo best expressed his genius in monumental frescoes. End your morning tour in St. Peter's Basilica. Take in the awesome architecture and the statuary
adorning this largest of all Christian churches, including Michelangelos magnificent Pieta. Pray at the new tomb of St. John Paul II, in St. Sebastians Chapel.
Independent lunch. This afternoon is your opportunity to explore the sights,
sounds and tastes of Rome all on your own. Perhaps you will want to treat yourself to a leisurely multi-course lunch in a quaint trattoria. Visit the beautiful and
lively Piazza Navona, with time to browse through the artists stalls to buy a
painting or just look...and a chance to buy one of Romes most famous products,
a tartufo (ice cream) at the Gelateria Tre Scalini. Independent dinner.
Overnight at hotel in Rome.

Day 11
Breakfast at our hotel. Our day begins with Mass at the Church of Chiesa Nuova
(Oratory of St. Philip Neri). After Mass, continue to the ancient Roman Forum.
See the Arch of Titus and the Arch of Constantine and proceed to the outside of
the Coliseum for a fascinating explanation of its history. Continue on to the
grandiose white marble monument of King Victor Emmanuel II, often called the
"Wedding Cake." See the Trajan Column and the Market (the ancient Roman
equivalent of a department store). Independent lunch. Tour of the Scavi*(Subject
to confirmation): The Scavi, or Vatican Necropolis, is the underground excavation
under St. Peters Basilica. In 1939, Pope Pius XII ordered an excavation beneath
the grotto of St. Peter's Basilica, where many popes are buried. Among the tombs
of pagans and early Christians, far beneath the high altar of St. Peter's, excavators
found a shrine amid the rubble. Most scholars concur that the small column is
part of a second-century A.D. shrine built by Romes small Christian community
on the site where St. Peter was buried. *All tours of the Scavi are subject to confirmation by the Vatican Office two weeks prior to departure. Tours run continually, are one
hour in length, and are limited to 12-15 persons. Our farewell dinner this evening
will be at Tanagra Restaurant in Rome. Experience an atmosphere of hospitality
and friendship, and taste the Mediterranean cuisine in a typical Roman setting
with wine and music.
Overnight at hotel in Rome.
