East Shirley 1 are playing in the Senior Premier grade and this group have done so since the New Year.
The 10 players in this team are:
Joel Williams
Logan Knowles
Cameron Hinman
Jesse Hunter
Connor Arnold
Tex Graham
Jacob Keilar
Tom Byrne
Marsyle Scott
William Grocott

This team are spoilt for choice in that they would all be all rounders. with the coaches Russell Graham
and Tarquin Smith giving each player plenty of oppurtunity at both practice and games to develop all
round games and skills. William, Marsyle, Joel,Tex, and Logan are also keen with the gloves, so some
games of 40 overs see 1 or 2 changes in glovemen. With 3 games remaining this year we are still
undefeated and playing great cricket. Every player has had their standout moments either with bat, ball or
in the field, and it is this attribute which is feeding our good cricket. Most of the team have chosen to
nominate and trial for regional tournament teams this year with real success. Logan, William, Connor,
Marsyle, Tom, Jacob and Jesse have been selected to play in various Canty Yr8 rep teams to play our
regional neighbours on March 21st, while Joel has been selected for a Canty Yr7 rep team to play on the
same day. We have enjoyed good positive parental support at games and training with Geoff Scott being
a real asset for the coaches in his ability to help with fielding drills and standing as an umpire regularly on
a Saturday, and Andrew Hinman shouldering most of the scoring duty. We look forward to having a good
end of season, and renewing afresh with the same crew for the end of 2010 before dispersing as we do to
the various school team grades

Date: 20/03/10 Opposition: Sydenham 4 Result: Win

Game Report: ES1 in the senior premier grade had a very tense and exciting game last Saturday against
the only other unbeaten team in the grade; Sydenham4. Playing on our home ground at Clare Park 2, we
lost the toss yet again and were inserted to bat. Sydenham are renowned for their fantastic pace attack
with 4 of their quicks being Canty reps. We lost Logan with the 2nd ball of the day, and our other opener
Will soon after. Connor and Marsyle had to show some real batting maturity and steel to negotiate their 4
quicks who steamed through the first 11 overs. At this stage we had 11 on the board. Slowly but surely
we made progress to be at 2 an over after the first 20. Connor got out to a tough caught behind decision,
while Marsyle continued through to compulsory retirement after 50 balls for 19. Jacob Keilar who followed
Connor also achieved compulsory retirement. Some relatively good shot making occurred from Jesse,
Tom. Joel , Tex and Cameron to have us at 108 after 36 overs. In this grade, when all wickets are lost the
retired bats can come back in. Up steps Marsyle who took his score to 41 with some great striking to be
caught out on the last ball. Team total 145. We bowled and more importantly fielded really well, totally
restricting scoring opportunities and by the 20th over Sydenham were on 46. They also have some great
batting and were challenging the whole way. Tight bowling and fielding continued, with the breakthroughs
coming via 2 good catches by Cameron. Particular mention should also be made of Connor, who bowled
with fantastic pace and accuracy in both his spells. However it was a team effort of everyone putting it
together to finally have Sydenham out for 136. We look forward to our last game of the season at Clare
Park 1 on Saturday against a Halswell team.
