Safety Precautions
PROPER GROUNDING
Never power up the indoor equipment not yet connected to a proper
grounding system.
There is risk of equipment failure and/or electrical shock.
Ensure that the indoor grounding system measures a path resistance less
than 4 .
ESD PROTECTION
Always use proper antistatic protection (i.e. grounding bracelet,
antistatic bags, etc.) when handling the system cards.
Parts bearing the ESD sign (see left) have ESD sensitive exposed
components.

This section describes the main actions that must be taken in consideration
prior to the equipment installation.
Site survey
Site survey should take place before starting the installation, taking into account the
following:
Network port
distributors
Indoor
premises
conditions
Indoor
grounding
system
All racks within the installation premises should be connected to a lowresistance grounding system. The metal body of the rack, into which the
subracks are to be mounted, should be connected to this grounding system.
The enclosure of each subrack must be electrically connected to the racks
metal body (via a short grounding cable) to provide protection against
harmful discharge conditions.
Continued on next page

OmniBAS -2W/4W/8W
Installation and Cabling Manual - Edition 6.0
Appropriate cable conduits should exist for the routing of installed cables,
inclusive of the coaxial IF cable(s) connecting the indoor equipment with the
outdoor transceiver boxes on the buildings roof.
Power supply
requirements
Maximum
power supply
length
(1)
If the nominal value of -48 V changes then the cable length differentiates respectively.
(2)
The power supply length is calculated based on the IDU operational temperature 25 C
17
The network port distributors (optical distributors excluded) and the power
supply distributors should be equipped with the appropriate gas arresters, to
provide protection against lightning conditions.
Such conditions may induce voltage peaks on the cables, and thus disturb
the operation of the indoor equipment. For this purpose, all electrical
distributors should be connected to the local grounding system to allow the
installed gas arresters to operate.
