Purpose of the Course: The goal of this course is two-fold: to study numerical methods
that will help us solve mathematical modeling problems and to leam how to implement
these numerical methods efficiently using MATLAB (the built in functions).

Textbook: Numerical Methodsfor Engineers, Sixth edition, by Steven C. Chapra and

Raymond P. Canale. Publisher: McGraw Hill.
Exams
There will be one midterm (usually on the 9ft week), and a final exam at the end of the
semester. The Midterm as well as the Final exam dates are set by the administration
and
will not be changed or postponed. The Final will be compreh"rrrlr". A project using
MATLAB will be submitted at the end of the semester as well.

Course Grading: The grade you receive will be based on your performance on the
midterm, assignments, and final exam according to the following tabli:

Important Remarks:

l.

Students must take the midterm and final examinations at the assigned time and place.

2.

You are strongly encouraged to seek help with your homework from the Teaching
Assistant or from your instructors.
The Final Exam is cornrprehensive (i.e. will include questions on all the material of
the course from the first day to the last day of the semester).
Class participation is required and encouraged. Feel free to ask any questions during
the lecture.
N0 Late assignments will be accepted after the deadlines specified in class.
