ADMISSION FOR 2012/2013 SESSION


Introduction:
The Centre for Advance Petroleum Research, Institute of Petroleum Studies (IPS), University of
Port is established to offer international Collaborative programmes for sustainable development
in the petroleum industry. At IPS, we have a multidisciplinary pool of consultants and experts in
Nigeria and abroad who have many years of experience in oilfield operations, research and
consultancy. With such a high caliber expertise, we are positioned to deliver professional and
high quality service to industry through applied research and continuing education programmes.

1. Ph.D PROGRAMME IN PETROLEUM ENGINEERING AND PROJECT


DEVELOPMENT
The objective of this programme is to commit intelligent and talented young men and women to
solving the diverse problems in our industry particularly in the area of oil exploration and
exploitation and gas utilization. The Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Petroleum Engineering
and Project Development will be conferred on candidates that demonstrated substantial
scholarship, high attainment in a particular field of knowledge and ability to do independent
investigation. Candidates for this programme will be drawn from part-time students who are
already working in the industry and full-time students. However, in all cases, the research
must be sponsored.
Admission Requirement
Candidates from this programme will be drawn from the following:
1. Students (Part-Time or Full-Time) that successfully completed the MSc Programme of
the Institute with a minimum CGPA of 4.0.
2. Qualified Research Fellows from the industry
3. Other candidates with comparable qualifications from other Universities.
Areas of Specialization:

Reservoir Engineering
Production Engineering
Drilling Engineering
Gas Engineering and Utilization
Petroleum Economics
Environmental Management and Pollution Control

Duration of Programme
Full-Time: Minimum 24 calender months
Part-Time: Minimum 48 calender months

Application Fee
A non-refundable application fee of twenty thousand naira (N20, 000.00) in certified bank draft
made payable to Institute of Petroleum studies, University of Port Harcourt. Applicants
should either include a prepaid FedEx envelop with the draft or collect the form in person. Could
visit our website at www.ipsng.org to print form.
Completed application forms must be returned to the Director, Institute of Petroleum Studies,
University of Port Harcourt, on or before Friday, 24th August, 2012.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview and presentation on subject of research
interest.
