Overview
Log Export Utility allows you to export log data to an ASCII data file in
any of three formats:
SMI, as defined for use with the Stratigraphic Geo-cellular
Model (SGM) that StataModel uses
the common log ASCII Standard (LAS) 1.2
the common log ASCII Standard (LAS) 2.0
Log Export Utility outputs an ASCII file for each selected well.
This utility supports both single well and multi-well/multi-log
processing. In addition, it supports conventional depth processing by
total well, specified depths, or units (as defined by the current
interpreters source priority list).
The Log Export Utility now offers optional outputs for TVD (true
vertical depth) and TVDSS (true vertical depth subsea) along with
periodic MD (measured depth values. TVD and TVDSS values are
those associated with periodic MD depths, and are themselves
aperiodic.

SM1
SM1 format is designed for use with the Stratigraphic Geo-cellular
Model (SGM) of StrataModel.
SM1 format is always generated using True Vertical Depth (TVD)
mode. All elevations and Total Depth values, as well as all Z-axis depth
values, reflect this depth type. The log data is retrieved and sampled as
Measured Depth. The corresponding positions and equivalent TVD
values are exported as X, Y, Z data points. The measured depth values
are also exported as Z.
This utility can produce an SM1 export file only when all X,Y, Z
information is found for a well. Consequently, downhole position
information must exist for a well. If downhole position information is
not available for a given well, it is assumed that it is a straight hole and
all x,ys will be the same. If no surface x,y coordinates are associated
with the well, the export file is not created.
The well symbol produced in SM1 format files is always zero.
Consequently, SM1 format ignores the OpenWorks well symbol id that
is associated with the exported well.
LAS
LAS formats can be exported as MD, TVD, or TVDSS. You may
specify a depth interval in MD, TVD, or TVDSS for the input and

Set the depth units. Depth units may be in feet or meters. The
application defaults to the depth units for the current project.
However, you can switch between units of measurement.
Moreover, if you switch from one unit to another after inputting
the top and base depths for the depth interval, the top and base
depth values will be converted to reflect the selected unit.
5.
Select Options > Depth Type to indicate how the application will
interpret the top/base depth interval values. Selections include:
Measured Depth (MD)
True Vertical Depth (TVD)
True Vertical Depth Sub Sea (TVDSS)
When interpreted as Measured Depth (MD) or True Vertical Depth
(TVD), the top depth must be less than the base depth.

Press the Total Depth Range toggle button to export log curve
data from the highest top to the deepest bottom of the currently
selected wells. The exported depth interval may vary between
wells.
Press the Depth Interval toggle button to enter user-specified
values for the top and bottom depth range. You can specify any
value between 0 and 10000. Press Button 3 to view the
minimum, maximum and default interval values. The values are
interpreted as the currently selected depth units (feet or meters).
What if my log curve values lie partially or completely outside
logged intervals?
When exporting data from multiple wells, you may end up specifying top and
base depths that define an interval that lies outside the logged interval for a
selected well. When this occurs, log curve values for intervals that lie partially
(or completely) outside logged intervals are exported as nulls.

R2003.12.1
7.
Enter a value for the sample interval. All curves will be resampled
at the specified sample interval. Two options are available:
Default guarantees you the smallest sampling frequency from
all periodic log data input into the algorithm. If none of the data
is periodic, a default is chosen based on depth units. The default
for feet is 0.5. For meters, the default is 0.125.
User Specified allows you to specify any value between 0.001
and 10. The values are interpreted as the currently selected
depth units, i.e. feet or meters. The selections for this parameter
include the minimum and maximum values and a clear all
option. For both feet and meters, the minimum value is 0.001,
the maximum value is 10.0. The default for feet is 0.5. For
meters, the default is 0.125. Note that the default value, which
is shown in the User-specified field, changes when you change
depth units.

To abort the process, press the <Escape> key. The application will
terminate the export process as soon as it completes processing the
current well.
If the selected log curve does not exist for a well...
SM1: If a log curve that is being exported in SM1 format does not exist for a
given well, the utility displays a warning message and outputs null value arrays
to the export file.
LAS 1.2 and 2.0: If a log curve that is being exported in LAS format does not
exist for a given well, the utility displays a warning message, and suppresses
the corresponding log header and values array in the export file.
Regardless of the format, if none of the selected log curves exist for a well, a
warning message is displayed and no export file is created.

Overview
Some quantitative well bore data, in particular core analysis data, are
stored in the tables in the OpenWorks database that PetroWorks
applications cannot directly access. Wellbore Data Converter provides
a way to create pseudo log curves from these conventional core analysis
data.
Each interpreter can then have a personal working copy of these pseudo
log data curves and can manipulate them like any other
nonresampleable curves within PetroWorks and OpenWorks
applications. The original data in the core tables are not modified.
For example, the following Single Well Viewer plot portion shows
pseudo log curves of porosity, oil saturation, and water saturation data
along with depth and CN and ZDEN curves for a well. The core data
are also plotted as numeric values.

If the core sample tables are not already populated, use the OpenWorks
ASCII Data Loader to load core data. Create core shifts using LogEdit.

You can convert multiple properties in a single operation. Separate

respectively.
