Research Proposal

1. Purpose of research
Online shopping has become new type of retail shopping. It has now
been adopted all over the world including India. This shopping
method is still not as well known or accepted as in many other
countries, and though the knowledge of online shopping in India is
now beginning to increase rapidly, to know the factors influencing
online shopping behavior of Indian consumers there are several
articles written. The main objectives of this study are to analyze
factors affecting on online shopping behavior of consumers that
might be one of the most important issues of e-commerce and
marketing field. However, there is very limited knowledge about
online consumer behavior because it is a complicated sociotechnical phenomenon and involves too many factors. To investigate
these hypotheses four hundred questionnaires were dispersed
among the residents of Chennai. The survey based average data is
selected and analyzed. The final interpretation is used to improve
online shopping among the residents of Chennai.

2. Research Design
For this study descriptive research design has been adopted
because the research will analyze the factor of purchasing and
consumer intention regarding online shopping. Respondents of
Chennai has been targeted to gather responses, the structured
questionnaire is used for this purpose.

3. Measurement
Descriptive research will be conducted with questionnaires having
responses over the scale of 1-5, to determine the factors affecting
online shopping behavior of customer particularly in Chennai.
Example- Shopping online is Risky? (Rate 1-5 Strongly Disagree to
Strongly Agree)

4. Sample Design
Target Population- Population of Chennai

Probabilistic method of sample selection is used for this study. In this


study Convenience Sampling method is being used.
Total Sample Size: 400.

5. Data Gathering
A structure questionnaire will be used by us for collecting the
response and for drawing the conclusion. Questionnaire is
constructed in simple language in order to reduce the risk of
ambiguity.

6. Data processing/ Analysis


Significantly mean difference in nominal independent variable i.e.
convenience, saving of time, price, trust and perceived risk one way
Variance (ANOVA) is used. Multiple regression is used for
independent considered for this study. All the analysis is done by
means of SPSS software.

7. Presentation of results
Results will be published in tabular format in rank order. This will
give the list of all the factors which has affected the online shopping
behavior of residents of Chennai.
