Alicia Bailey will present a talk on structurally innovative letterpress printed artists' books. Mountain Folds is a
nonprofit literary center located in downtown Colorado springs that supports contemporary publications of
poetry and visual arts. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Robbin Ami Silverberg is an artist and founding director of Dobbin Mill, a hand-papermaking studio, and Dobbin
Books, a collaborative artist book studio. Her artwork is divided between artist books and installations. The work
conceptually focuses on word cognition and interlinearity, with an emphasis on process and paper as activated
substrate.

Gathering of the Guilds

Sponsored by the Colorado Arts & Crafts Society, this annual event showcases the best of craft in all media.
The Rocky Mtn. chapter of GBW will be represented, as well as the Book Arts League and the Letterpress Depot,
among many others. A wonderful collection of professional artists, craftsman, metalsmiths, woodworkers and
weavers selling their handcrafted items in the following categories: Art, Book Binding, Calligraphy, Ceramics,
Distilling, Fiber, Furniture, Glass, Home Restoration, Jewelry, Knife Making, Paper, and Textiles. There will be
demonstrations, workshops, and presentations throughout the day.
$5 General Admission. Members of participating guilds admitted free.

Description: You will bind two books in our three-day class. The first full leather binding you will complete is a
multi-section binding, with visible sewing. The second full leather binding you will complete is a variation of this
exposed sewing structure with a full leather spine which can be decorated or titled as you would a traditional
binding. In this class you will have the opportunity to decorate both bindings with leather and paper inlays.
Based on the Multi-Section Pamphlet in The Essential Guide to Making Handmade Books by Gabrielle Fox, the
text is sewn into both structures at the very end and is removable for future conservation and replaceable for
any changes made in an artists book.
Gabrielle Fox is a bookbinder based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her work is represented in many public and private
libraries and being exhibited this year in InsideOut

A caffeine-fueled letterpress printing workshop with Brian Wood. Print your favorite coffee quote! Students will
use wood and metal type to create a print (just about any size) exclaiming their need/passion/love for coffee.
Students will take home ready to frame one-of-a-kind letterpress prints. And of course, coffee will be served!

Paint, Bind, Exposed Spine with Coptic Stitch Brenda Gallagher
Paint pages, then bind them into an artist book with an exposed spine. No prior experience necessary.
Cost -- $125 BAL Members, $135 Non Members
MATERIALS FEE: $5 materials fee, payable in cash & brought to class. Materials fee covers thread, glue, book
board, Arches paper to paint, and also text weight paper for the interior pages.

Intro to Linocut & Letterpress Vivian Jean and Julia Seko (PS Press)

Carve a 3 x 5 linoleum block to combine with metal type for a unique edition of cards. Students will learn the
basics of linoleum block carving and be introduced to basic letterpress techniques of setting type, presswork and
cleanup.
Well make use of a tabletop proof press as we work on our designs, then we will print our editions on the
Vandercook SP15 proof press. Well embellish our cards with handset type printed on a platen press. Students
will take home an edition of 12 20 cards of their own design.
No previous experience required; this class is best for teens and adults.

Do you love a heavy impression or hope to print with wood type? Are you unsure a giant letterpress will fit into
your house and/or life? Then join Tom Parson to experiment with the power and versatility of tabletop presses!
This class will cover the varieties, limitations, improvised solutions, differences, supplies, repairs, adjustments of
portable small presses.
