4. The ratio between the speed of a truck, car and train is 3: 8: 9. The
car moved uniformly and covered a distance of 1040 km in 13 hours.
What is the average speed of the truck and the train together?
(1) 75km/hr
(2) 60 km/hr
(3) 48 km/hr
(4) Cannot be determined
(5) None of these
Solution: Speed of car = (1040/13)=80KMPH
Ratio of speed of truck, car and train = 3 : 8 : 9
Now 8x = 80
Therefore X = 10 Hence truck = 30 kmph. Train = 90 kmph.
Hence, Average speed of truck and train together = (30+90)/2= 120/2=60

5. Among three numbers the first is twice the second thrice the third.
If the average of the three numbers is 49.5, then the difference
between the first and the third number is
(1) 54
(2) 28
(3) 39.5
(4) 41.5
Let The First Number be X
Second Will be X/2
Third Will Be X/3
According to given Condition,
X+(X/2)+(X/3)= 3*49.5= 148.5
11X= 148.5*6
X= (148.5*6)/11=81
7. The average age of 30 boys in a class is 15 yr. One boy aged 20 yr,
left the class but two new boys came in his place whose ages differ by
5 yr. If the average age of all the boys now in the class still remains 15
yr, the age of the younger newcomer is
a) 20 yr
b) 15 yr
c) 10 yr
d) 8 yr
Solution :Quicker Approach:- Total age of 30 Boys= 30* 15=450 years
Excluding age of boy of 20 year, total age = 430 years
Two included and One Left , therefore total students=31
Total age of 31 students= 31*15=465
Difference in age= 35 years
X+Y= 35, X-Y=5
X=20
Y=15
Ans: (b)
8. A man bought 13 shirts of Rs 50 Each, 15 pants of Rs. 60 each and 12 Pairs
of Shoes at Rs. 65 a Pair. Find the Average Value of Each Article.
Average ={(13x50)+(15x60)+(12*65)}/(13+15+12)= Rs 58.25
9. The average age of Mr and Mrs Sharma 4 years ago is 28 years . If the present average
age of Mr and Mrs Sharma and their son is 22 years. What is the age of their son.
Solution :4 years ago their average age is 28 years.
So their present average age is 32 years.
32 years for Mr and Mrs Sharma then 32*2=64 years.
Then present age including their son is 22 years.
So 22*3 =66 years.
Therefore son age will be 66-64 = 2 years.
Answer is 2 years.
