Social Media by Nurul Aini Adnan (2014)

Good morning to the honourable judges, teachers and fellow friends.

Today is the day when you can hear an interesting point of view about
social media.
Tweet2x Tweet2x (Look around, trying to find the noise)
Tweet2x Tweet2. (Robot voice) You tweet was just retweeted
A: OhI thought it was a bird.
All: Retweeted? What is that?
A: If you say something brilliant, your words will be read again and again
by your followers and the followers of your followers.
A boy looks like he is reading something behind a book. A mother came
and asked:
Mother: Son, what are you doing?
Son: Facebook ma.
Mother: Wah! My son is reading.
Son: Facebook ma. Not a book that you can borrow from the library.
Mother: OhFacebook What is Facebook?
All: Oh, Facebook. Its a social network application. Nowadays almost
everyone has a Facebook account. It helps you to keep in touch with your
friends around the globe. Facebook is a global phenomenon and made
Mark Zuckerberg a young millionaire. The Facebook application exists in
almost all smartphone.
Smartphone? Smart, phone? How smart is it? Everyone has it. Do you
know why do we use a phone?
Line 1: Its because we want to talk with someone who is far away.
Line 2: However nowadays people are clinging on their smartphones
because of social media!
Line 3: What is social media?
All: Website and applications used for social networking. Facebook, Twitter,
Instagram, Youtube, et cetera, et cetera. However, without proper
monitoring and ethics, it can be harmful. Albert Einstein once said: I fear
the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will
have a generation of idiots. Gossips, lies, hoax and provocation spread
like wildfire through these social media. What a shame. (head hung low)

One fine day, a father asked his family to go out for dinner. This is an
example of how we have misused the technology. We no longer
communicate with each other in the same space.
Father: Dear, lets go for a dinner at Kenny Rogers.
Kids: Yeay!! Kenny Rogers!
While they are having dinner, (sound of crickets)
Waitress: Whats for dinner sir?
Father: I would like to have the pasta and orange juice please. Thank you.
(Looking at the iPad)
Waitress: What about you maam?
Mother: I would like to have the same menu please.
Waitress: Alright. What about the kids?
Kids: We will have kids combo menu set number one. Thats all.
Waitress: Great! Your order will be right up.
All: At the dinner table, everyone is very focus. (Playing iPads and tablets)
Very, very focus. (Cricket sound)
They are sitting together in the same space but the family members are
busy with their gadgets.
What an irony! The purpose of having dinner together is to get closer with
family members. Not to grow apart and get lost in the virtual world of
social media. We are supposed to communicate with family members. Not
the whole Facebook nation. I repeat, communication.
C.O.M.M.U.N.I.C.A.T.I.O.N
Grandmother: The purpose of these communication devices is to help us
to communicate with someone in far distance. However, the technology
has taken over us.
The day that Albert Einsteins fear has come. We have misused the tools
of communication. We should use the tools to enhance our living quality.
We should not be addicted to Facebook and Twitter. We cant spread
gossips, lies and hoax on social media.
Grandmother: Children, tell me. If you have a flat tyre in the middle of
nowhere, would you ask for help on your Facebook?
All: No, grandma.
Rules number 47 stated by Richard Templars in his book: Never be too
busy for loved ones. Get to know them before its too late. You parents,
your family and relatives. These are important people in your life.

Appreciate them now before its too late. Oh, by the way, we hope that
you will upload our video on Facebook and Youtube.
Till then, goodbye and thank you.
