Situational Awareness for AF-Field

From OPD:

Sunday 14Dec:
1400 FOP:ASSEMBLY ON JUSTICE FOR MIKE BROWN AND ERIC GARNER
o We encourage all participants to come prepared to collaborate in serious, principled reflection and
debate on the events of the past two weeks. Proposals will be welcomed. Although we realize that
such discussions will be unavoidably messy and contentious, we ask that all who attend to please
refrain from personal or sectarian attacks and avoid rumor spreading or speculation. Also, we request
that individuals and groups respect the need for the fullest possible participation from all those who
wish to do so, and be mindful that they do not monopolize discussion time or conduct themselves in a
way that discourages others from contributing.

Monday 15Dec:
1700 Lake Merritt- Hello Wonderful Bay Area People. Please come out to mourn the wrongful deaths
and recent events in both Ferguson, New York, and across the country. We will circle the lake in light,
showing the world that we in Oakland want racial justice and need change.
There are three official gathering spots
1. At the columns at the corner of Grand Ave and El Embarcadero
2. Lakeside Drive across from Snow Park
3. At the new grassy amphitheater on Lake Merritt Blvd. People will gather at these 3 spots and walk
single file in both directions until we have encircled the lake with our light.
2000 candles have been purchased, though
please do bring your own candles and paper cups (to protect hands from hot wax and flame from
wind) to ensure you have one.
Please email Kristin@niacommunity.org if you would like to volunteer to hand out candles, and let me
know which of these 3 locations works best for you.
Please keep this event PEACEFUL and family friendly.
It appears there are two groups putting this event on now, possibly because of infighting.
